Back in March, we reported on a comment said by Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer of the Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S.

"The GT 86 was designed from the outset that we can build it as a convertible," said Tada.

Well it seems Toyota has given the green light for an FR-S convertible. Car and Driver reports the convertible will keep its back seat, however trunk space will suffer due to the folding roof mechanism.

Mechanicals will remain the same: a 200 HP flat-four engine and the choice between a six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Expect the convertible to get some structural reinforcements.

The FR-S is expected to come out in late 2013 or sometime 2014 with a larger pricetag.

Convertibles are exciting to many, but they never really seem to sell in large enough volumes to justify their cost of development. I wnder if it will really be a winner, only time will tell.

Course I guess we will see these in the next Fast and Furios movie.

I hope GM is watching the development of these vehicles very closely. With Code 130R concept already in place, it should not be a big deal and time to turn the car into reality to give the ToySciRu triplets stiff competition.

True, but what would be even better is for GM to already have this going down the production line so they can grab all the few buyers there already are as once the bulk of them spend coin, th rest will have development dollars sitting on the lots.
