Who wants an El Camino?

Saw this for sale the other night...stopped by with a camera today during the daylight.

The hood and the paint put this one on the "do not buy" list for me.

I do like how the Iroc wheels look on it though.

needs a strip and a repaint, and some mild rust treatment in the bed, but that's about it.

Price does need to come down a bit though.

I hope that hood wasn't cut under that Battlestar Galactica scoop crap thing. And I'm sure it came with a bench seat, as those appear to be some sort of weird aftermarket seats and console. Typical 80's customization, imo. Could be returned to normal. Hope it's not full of bondo.

It looked better in the dark the other night

The riser piece of the hood had a seam you can make out in the black paint...not sure if it's stuck on or what. Hood was the least appealing aspect of the car.

The seats were power...there was a button visible. I was trying to figure out what the seats and console came from...

At least my truck looks shiny in the background of a few of the shots!

The seats look better than a vinyl bench seat...with some work inside and out it could be a neat cruiser...the paint scheme reminds me of an AAR Cuda.

Does the Monte Carlo hood fit on these? The contours look very similar. If so that would greatly increase the number of parts cars that could help this thing. This guy was obviously an F-body fan, that scoop looks straight off a modded IROC.

For me, the bottom line is that it's a 70s El Camino that doesnt appear to need any sheetmetal replaced (aside from the hood). If the dash isn't cracked, even better.

The '350' badge on the left side of the tailgate looks like a 3500-trim truck badge cut down.. not sure what the grafitti marks are on the right side of the tailgate.

Needs too much TLC for $3500. The painjob I could live with, but not the hood. And it's an auto. I vote Crack Pipe.

Correct. The black stuff on the right side of the tailgate was the remnants of 2-sided tape from an emblem. Also the left front fender had an 'el camino' emblem, but had fallen off the right side.

The "350" badge on the tailgate is wrong for sure, as are whatever those badges on the lower front fenders are.

If the rest of the car is actually rust-free, and not a bondo and paint special, then Z. is right that this could be pretty nice with some work.

Still not worth $3,500 as it sits though.

looks more like it said Chevrolet. the stripping from the paint matches those letters more closely than "El Camino"

I mean, given the badging (over)customization, It wouldn't be out of the question for the owner to have replaced the original El Camino badge with the "CHEVROLET" script from a Chevy truck, which is what it looks like was there and had fallen off.

I mean, given the badging (over)customization, It wouldn't be out of the question for the owner to have replaced the original El Camino badge with the "CHEVROLET" script from a Chevy truck, which is what it looks like was there and had fallen off.

Entirely possible considering that the original badge (El Camino) was not attached with double sided tape, but with actual fasteners. That's what it had when it left the factory, and I guarantee that if you looked closely at that bowtie, you'd see where the original badge snapped - off.

Yeah, something tells me the paint on the horizontal surfaces was sunburned to oblivion. I'd say this is good at $2200, assuming its not full of bondo. But I imagine it has bondo.
