Dodge News: 2013 SRT Viper Teased!

If you're a fan of big Mopar muscle, then the recent talk of the return of the Viper has probably given you a big reason to be excited. If so, then this teaser shot just released moments ago over on Chrysler's SRT brand's Facebook page will probably make you estastic.

This is probably about as revealing as it's going to be until the veil is drawn back on Chrysler's V-10 powered supercar this April at the New York Auto Show. What we can tell for sure from this image is that the new Viper will probably have much of the same intimidating persona as the previous car. The headlamps will be lined with LEDs and there's a new Viper badge to feast your eyes upon.

What will help set this Viper's new skin apart from the old one, though, will be some of the bits you can't see. For example, the new Viper will be the first to feature stability control to keep the government drones at bay. Ralph Gillies, boss of the SRT division, has also said that vastly improving the interior was a key focus point of the new car.

There's still two short months to wait until we can see the car in the flesh, although those two months are sure to feel like forever.

No FIAT would only spoil the look. I sure hope it is not what your seeing. April can take it's time to get here, no need to rush things, we need a cool cold winter and spring to keep the snow coming so we have a nice long ski season and we build up the snow pack so we have water for the summer. :D

This is a good teaser for now :P

im super excited to see the new Viper its something i look forward too with every new Gen, and i am NEVER disappointed. having a fiat mixed in would not ruin it for me one bit. i think what Fiat has added to Chrysler is Curves and that's never a bad thing. and lets not forget who Fiat owns. Ferrari. having that Italian HP and looks will be a new breath that i will drool over.

^ That's better than some others, but 'something to shoot for'? -No.

An exotic sports car should be a lot more purposeful, clean & flowing; the above could be in a 4-dr sedan and has little cohesive design going on there.

And the vents (even if they echo the awkward tails) need to go.

For the price, it's sorely lacking IMO.

see that interior screams sports car to me. i have no problems with the exotic leather, the carbon fiber. it has its own order and cleanliness to it. my biggest issue with the last gen viper and the gen before it was their inteiors looked like you had to be 5 foot nothing and 80 lbs to fit in it. i like the ferrari interior because it feels big. you can breathe and lets face it THIS

I didn't like the Viper interior posted above, either. That large flat panel looks like something out of a cube van.

My issue is, the ferrari 599 is $410,000, yet it's interior design (materials aside) looks like it's more like $50K.

THIS looks more like $400K IMO, can I get something expressive & unique for all that coin??:

The irony in my example, of course, is that interior is in a car that costs $1000K.... :P

the things that come off sporty to me are the curves, the two tone leather, the CF accents. its just is sporty. not much else to it. the cost is so high in the Ferrari because of material the fine leathers, and what not. you don't have to do that. but make it look nice. you can reflect the Ferrari interior in looks without reflecting the cost. and also you have to remember when it comes to buying a Ferrari you are buying a name. Ferrari makes their cars so expensive because they can. people dont need a Ferrari they want one. and when it comes to wants you will find that the price tag will be whatever the maker wants it to be. my whole point is that dodge can get pointers from Ferrari on what people like in their cars. they then can take that advice and spruce up the viper interior. im not saying take a Ferrari interior and put it in a viper.

Well, if you boil it down, the vents are plundered from the second-gen Neon and first-gen Jeep Liberty. The HVAC control panel is from a Dodge Dakota. The turn signal and wiper stalks are, once again, from the Jeep Liberty. The radio was used in every early Daimler-era Chrysler ever built, same for the window switches. The power mirror controls were also -- yep! -- yanked from the Jeep Liberty.

It's a parts bin interior. That's something Chrysler is going to avoid at all costs for the new Viper. It's a car costing $90k and it'll have an interior appropriate for a car of its price class.

the ZB's interior was always pretty boring, but it was supposed to be minimalist, or at least evoke minimalism. The I'm also not a fan of the Fezza's interior. It may scream sports car, I'll give you that, bit it also seems incoherently busy. At least the Pagani's had a theme running about, but that interior is also really busy...then again that's the Pagani's hallmark, part of it's charm.

I really wish Ferraris would return to classical form instead of looking like a Korean cyborg with four wheels and a screaming engine. Granted they look badass, but Ferraris are supposed to be beautiful. We already have Lamborghini covering "badass."

How I long for classic Pininfarina beauty.

I do not mind the minal interior of the old vipers, after all it was to be a driving machine, not a cruzing machine. I do agree with everyone that in an auto like this, the interior should be unique.

In regards to the dancing ponies, I have yet to find any of their cars beautiful and the interiors just do nothing for me.

Lambo on the other hand is drop dead sexy. :P

to be the viper means being the best that dodge can put out. the best that CHRYSLER can put out. that includes not only outside looks, power all that, it also includes the interior. the reason i am pushing this so much is that i already know its going to look good on the outside and be a powerhouse. same as always, what they need to do is update the interior. again im not saying throw a Ferrari interior in the car im saying use Ferrari knowledge on interiors and make an interior fitting for the viper. a super car should be just that super. and in my opinion that should include the interior as well.

Yup, some nice cars but none of them I would want or says drive me. I would rather drive my Trailblazer SS over any of these.

Growing up watching Magnum PI the car was no big deal, but the Girls and story lines :)

Growing up watching Cannonball run, I finally found my dream car, The Lambo, Girls extra ;)

Over all, I understand what you find beautiful and lust to drive is different than what I find beautiful and lust to drive. Enjoy your prancing ponies, I will enjoy my American muscle and the Lambo's, they are HOT! :P

The American Muscle is the cute girl next door you've known forever and you'd probably be more likely to ask her out. :D

Has anyone seen the March issue of Car and Driver with their pictures of the new Viper? If that is what this shadow copy is supposed to look like, I have to say it is BUTT UGLY!!! I do not like it at all.

If they want the viper to be like the dodge trucks as a love it or hate it, then they will have succeeded.

Some of the ferraris are well done, but by no means are they unilaterally 'beautiful'.

The 3rd one pictured above, the race car, is -by design standards- a bulbous monstrosity.

The earlier cars are nice, but unremarkable. They're purpose-built as streetable performance cars, not artistic creations.

The current designs (599, etc) are probably the cleanest & 'hottest', but the bulk of their visual impact, IMO is proportional, not the actual design. IE; they're extremely low & slippery, but the actual details are not very unique. Picture the 3rd-from-bottom car molded into the proportions of a -say- mazda 3 and..., yea.

Ferrari here is -in comparison- quite dated & pedestrian. Greenhouse & body are separate, ferrari falls prey to one of the cardinal sins of timeless design; using panel seams as styling elements. Front bumper has a prominent, unavoidable horizontal seam, lambo's is completely integrated/ doesn't have a 'bumper'. Ferrari has -gasp!- rocker cladding.

These two are in completely different arenas...

Well, the Fezza is also a >15 year old design as compared to the brand new Lambo, with 15 year old styling trends. That's sort of like comparing:

I don't even kno which ferrari that is, but that's a circa 1995??

I kno ferrari doesn't advance their designs much, but...

Still, sub a 599 in there- same approach, same critiques from me.

The countach/diablo design was ancient in terms of years; it debuted in 1970.

Well, it's an F575M (a Superamerica, to be exact), which is basically a mild MCE of the 550, which was a '96 or '97 model.

The 550/575 Maranello stuck around until 2006, IIRC.

But I'll agree that Ferrari aren't always the same "beautiful;" they have their phases: Artistic in the 60's, funky (and at times just plain odd) in the 70's, technical in the 80's and early 90's, Rennaisance-style (emulates the 60's) in the late 90's-early 2000's. and now they're sort of technical and origami-ish again. But they all have their own charms. From a purely objective design standpoint, an F40 is practiaclly a flying doorstop with a basket handle, but there's something more behind it that makes it badass.
