Yes yes, I know it's hard to get up off the sidewalk with your snowsuit on, BUT hey, get your mom to put your arms down so you can post some stone cold car spots right up in here!

Was 77 and sunny here today, so for winter sightings on my walk around the 'hood earlier I saw a clean '70s era silver blue Merc 450 SL, a black Audi A5 convertible, and a gorgeous dark red '11-12 Camaro SS convertible, all with tops down...

Was 80 here today...love the cool winter weather. Saw a white Volt at Starbucks this morning..the first one I've seen in the wild (saw a couple at a dealer several months ago and a wrecked one on a rollback truck back in August)...

Posted

Was in traffic this morning behind a homemade '77-79 Lincoln Mk V convertible...seemed a bit cold to drive around topless (46 degrees at 7am).

Cyber Gray Volt beside me from light to light in Philly on Sunday. Greyhound in the back seat hanging out the window. Love seeing these things up close, dirty, and humming around, seem high end and too cool at the same time.

Saw my first on-the-road (well, in a parking lot) 2012 Buick Verano today. It was the dark red color and looked great glistening in the sun. I can't wait to check this car out at the upcoming Philadelphia Auto Show (1/28-2/5).

green maybe 95 or 96 subie svx. those things seem really cool for some reason. i can only imagine owning one would be a nightmare in the parts department though.

Very clean, white, '70 Coronet hardtop, aftermarket shoes, parking in residential driveway.

Nice red '70 Chevelle SS hardtop (clone), black stripes, 4-spd, BB crate motor, clean driver with some bubbling, owner has bad knees & the clutch is too stiff. :scratchchin:

Saw a large dark red w/ tan top late '30s-early '40s convertible...couldn't see the front but only the side and rear...think it might have been a Cadillac or LaSalle from around '39 or so...was going down my street and saw it drive across a cross street, a car ahead of me partially blocked my view..

Posted

Saw a sharp silver-green w/ white vinyl top '73 Coupe de Ville in the parking garage at work...what a beast...really stands out in a garage full of modern Priuses, Civics, Accords, Camrys, SUVs, CUVs etc....

A vintage Mini Cooper with factory but not factory cool looking also small wheels, cruising I-76 in the pouring rain tonight through Philly, with New Jersey Antique plates.

Such a cool look. From behind, small. Once passed, I looked in the mirror and seeing it behind the Camry in front of it...insanely tiny.

Corvette convertible (it looked like a Grand Sport from a distance) and Camaro coupe at a Chevrolet dealership in Lisbon. The American Chevrolets have arrived in Portugal :)

Silver Fiat 500 driven by a handsome man.

Green new CR-V being driven from the dealer to get its first tankful of gasoline. Not bad in person.

Posted

Brick red Jetta Mk II 2-door with black steelies and a seemingly missing muffler. Haven't seen or heard one of those in forever.

Saw a silver Chevy Captiva this morning, first one I'd seen in the wild.

In the last week, I've seen two '76-77 Chevelles, both 2drs, both white..one w/ a black vinyl top w/ Rally wheels, the other w/ hubcaps w/ no vinyl top..both in very clean shape...both had stacked rectangular headlights, but different grilles..

'76 had a cross-hatch pattern, '77 had vertical bars.

Both of the ones I saw had vertical bars, but one had many closely spaced vertical bars, the other had fewer vertical bars further apart...

Posted

You sir, win for spot of the munt. The one with fewer bars was a Kentucky Special Edition.

ok...no idea what that is, but the grille w/ the fewer bars looks like the '75 grille from what I've seen in image searches..but w/ the '76-77 stacked rectangular lights..

Posted

The Kentucky Special Edition was an early effort at Political Correctness by GM to better reflect the residents' dental health.

Fully loaded looking...and first I've seen...new Chevy-Saturn Captiva cruising 76 through Philly this morning. Took me a few to figure out the emblem.

That's just like the one I saw this morning...was sitting in a bagel shop and looked out and saw it in the lot outside the window in the predawn drizzle..took a moment to correlate the Chevy grille w/ the Saturn headlights till I realized what it was...

Yeah we had a lady total out her Taurus wagon (she said it was a hit and run, she never saw the car that hit her, but creosote and chunks of wood down the side of her car told a different story... TELEPHONE POLE! ) and she got a black Captiva from Enterprise with the polished wheels just like the pictured silver one.

Ford, Jeep and Chevrolet dealership window shopping on Sunday, saw the following vehicles that peaked my interest:

2012 Jeep Liberty Jet edition (awesome color IMO):

2011 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab 4WD (with an awesome looking aftermarket tire & rim package):

I saw a 2012 Ford Escape XLT Sport 4WD in Toreador Red Metallic with black accents that was awesome, but the way it was parked I was unable to get a good shot (facing the sun). It looked like this:

A '54 Kaiser Manhattan, looked real solid & complete, was sitting awkwardly in front of an old brick house's garage... the type of house that looks like a 90+ yr old guy has been living there since the '40s, and this car was just pulled out of the garage after being in there since the '60s. There was a dumpster behind the house... I will have to stop in tomm & see if I can figure out what's going on there.

This kind of reminds me of a story in Denver from a few years ago...a guy was like 92, had been in the same house 60+ years..had a small well-worn house on a square lot on a busy street in a neighborhood that had been gentrified--big glass and steel office buildings, apartment buildings, restaurants, etc around him...he had a faded late '60s Ford pickup in the driveway, a brown '69 Galaxie w/ weeds up around it beside the house, and a falling in garage w/ a '57 Ford peeking out..there was an article on him in the paper around 2005 about his fight against the city over zoning changes...

I drove down that street last year, and his place was all gone, replaced by a shiny new Chipotle w/ parking lot...

^ That's a serious cultural downgrade- what a shame. No one lives forever tho. Municipalities should just let people (AT LEAST over 65) alone and let them live out their lives. The bulldozer will come around soon enough.

I drove past an antiseptic mattress & crib store today, on the same highway lot where an old dude ran a hubcap business around his house. For years he had a for sale sign for $1 million. I bought a few sets of caps & rims from him. Miss the place.

One more off-topic post in here. The above stories remind me of the movie Up.

Hey Roger, that Colorado is a 1LT like I had, it is not a Z71. The flares are GM Accessory. Z71s have chrome bumpers and grilles, body-color flares and Z71 decals. It's a good looking rig though.

You should try out the Liberty Jet, man. I have not driven a Jet so I cannot speak about the ride with the 20s, but the regular Liberty drives nice, with a very solid feel.

A new black Sonic sedan in horrible traffic this morning...I'm seeing more and more of these daily in Philly:

And after that, a silver Optima SX...what a looker:

Yup, after looking my post over I saw that the tailgate said "LT" and noticed the body-color parts. I retracted my Z71 remark; maybe you saw that? I love those tires... will keep them in mind for future truck needs ;)

I love the look of the Liberty Jet, but to be honest I don't think I will be putting any seat time in one (outside of the upcoming Philly Auto Show). I definitely want a pickup truck next purchase - and if I'm able to hold onto the Envoy for family duty I definitely don't want another SUV (I'll only go SUV if I replace the Envoy). I'm hoping that the upcoming Chicago show presents a show truck version of the GMC Canyon replacement. I like the new Colorado but agree that the frontend styling is a deal killer (much like the Equinox vs. the Terrain for me). I'm hoping the MCE Acadia and Canyon replacement have more 2011 Sierra HD All Terrain concept looking frontend styling and that the Terrain benefits from a MCE soon after with the same styling.

Stopped at the Chevy dealer in Smyrna, DE after my doctor's appt down the street was cancelled today. Luckily the guy I had already met back in 2010 was out again to help. Fun 2 hours.

2 lonely leftover 2011 Camaro convertibles. I drove the 1LT...cloth is pretty nice. Then tried the beige leathered 2LT and alas, yes.

Spotted...lonely new 2011 Camaro convertibles (and more after these) in Delaware today. Next dealer south has black/black and yellow/black leftovers. Let's find them homes.

Red & white early 60's Ford pickup, long bed, a survivor it appeared, parked at a local garage. Unibody?

Saw a 2nd Prius V, in dark red. And saw one of the new generation 3-series sedans last night..didn't realize they were out yet...saw it from behind, thought it was a 5 until I saw the size difference and badging.

Saw an Acura RL race car yesterday afternoon...don't know what the story behind that was, parked in the lot of car customizing shop...looks like it had a roll cage and was covered in sponsor decals...

Was sitting in traffic next to the local Chevy store's fenced in commercial vehicle lot and saw a row of Caprice PPVs, white w/ black steelies..probably getting prepped for one of the local police departments...

Now I want to go cruise some other local Chevy dealerships this weekend to see one in person for myself :)
