I want one. I want a G6 convertible, OK? It’s vanilla-plain-looking, has funny proportions, limited practicality, and dammit I want one. I tried to resist, I was all “It looks like a Toyota Solaaaaara, ewww, no thanks,” but now I want one, and it's getting strong, this desire.

I’ve been looking at lots of pics of the G6 vert, and I think I like it’s styling better than the coupe, which looks like a hatchback. (I will have to see one in person tho.) Plus there’s the whole whiz-bang factor in the folding hard top, which just grabs my inner (and outer) engineering geek by the short-sleeved collared shirt and screams, “LOOK AT ME!! I TRANSFORM!!!” (I’ll need an Autobot symbol for the hood, a big one like the old Firebird hood chickens. :P ) That name still bugs me, tho, I might debadge it completely.

It’s a moot point, tho- we’re still paying for my wife’s Aztek, and even tho my new job would easily cover another car payment, we’re trying to move house in September, to a condo or even just a bigger apt. Plus, I would never buy the first model year of a car as complex as the G6 vert, anyway. And on top of that, I worry about what would become of the Mach 5 once I stopped driving her daily- ideally, she would become the subject of a mild resto, but most likely she’d end up parked for months at a time and falling into further disrepair, and I can’t let that happen.

I hope you’re happy, Pontiac and GM. Now I want- nay, must have- the Solstice and the G6 convertible- and I’ve never even been a big fan of droptops. Congrats on taking a step towards rescuing a long-time GM fan from the brink of total disillusionment. You bastards. ;-)

PS- make mine electric Blue Metallic, ya bums.

Hey Gus!

I remember you from the EFI-street days... I don't remember what my username was over there, unless it was DropTopOlds. Anyway, I had (have) a 1994 Cutlass Supreme 'vert that was triple white.

Anyway, glad to see your LQ1 holding up!

Matt

BTW, as psyched as I am about the G6 'vert, I'm really awaiting the new Chrysler Sebring folding hardtop convertible. Yum.

If it carries Airflite rather than 300 styling, I agree.

Have you seen some of the more revealing spy pictures yet? In a few of them you can see strakes on the hood (like those of the crossfire) and Airflite-esque headlights. Plus the interior is pretty cool looking, even in light gray.

I'd post some right now but my eye is killing me (I have a corneal abrasion on top of pink eye). I'm seriously thinking of stabbing it out to rid myself of the pain.

Sheesh.

But when it's better I'll post the best Chrysler spy pics I've found of it.
