To each his own indeed, Balthy.

Never thought much of Metallica, myself.

But I could wail through the gears to either song. 8)

And yes, I did listen to your pick - did you listen to mine?

I did (tho I skipped forward a bit). To my ear it comes off not unlike a video game soundtrack. Could not stand them back in the day, same stands today, but that's just me. I need a much harder edge.

Have been having an ongoing discussion with a younger friend of mine (19), and he claims the best decade overall is the '80s, and he pulls up numerous musical references to 'prove' his point. He has yet to sway my opinion. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't all that, either.

The 80s ?

Ugh, the death of all that was ever good in music!

I like a harder edge sometimes as well, but I'd lean toward something like Deep Purple rather than Metallica.

I like a bit more depth with my hard edge. :AH-HA:

Love those guys!

They crashed at my place way back when after a show in Philly - what a great time!

The Ramones prided themselves on minimalism; everything they did (or didn't do) was on purpose. 8)

There's a certain atitude you gotta have to get into 'em. you just gotta feel like kickin sh** and not apologizing for it.

(but don't listen to anything they did during their Phil Spector period. THAT truly sucked.)

but yeah, different strokes...

there were a few good ones to come out of the eighties and late seventies though. Turbo Lover by Judas Priest, Radar Love by the Golden Earring, and of course any early Metallica.

I mean, at least Metallica has talent.... The ramones, well,...

I didn't link to the Ramones...

Ah!

My mistake.

And, no, I didn't follow the link this time.

I admit it.

Being a HUGE thrash metal fan, I certainly think the 80s was the best decade of music, followed closely by the early to mid 90s blues rock stuff...

I usually drive to thrash, melodic death metal, industrial metal, alternative metal -OR-

fast paced BLUEGRASS... As a kid, my parents would always (we still do to this day) take me on 'local road trips' around the back roads of our beloved mountains... There's just something about cruising through the mountains with the windows/top down and the bluegrass cranked. It takes me to a different time and better place.

I like fast paced bluegrass, and my son has gotten me into melodic death metal...so yes on both accounts.
