Honda News: 2012 Honda CR-V Spied without Camo ahead of LA

The 2012 Honda CR-V was spied without camo just days before its official unveiling at the LA AutoShow. Power train rumors include a new 201 horsepower 2.5 liter 4-cylinder with 177 ft-lb of torque as a optional engine while the existing 2.4 will the base model and drop from 180 horsepower to 175. The transmission will remain a 5-speed model like the current Civic.

Honda claims that its recent troubles with parts supply from a flooded Taiwan will not effect the CR-V launch as it has with the Civic.

Looks like the angle either makes it or breaks it. In that one shot it looks like an Aztek; very ungainly. The concept looked pretty good. This CR-V will probably look better than the current gen in person.

I remember the release of the last gen CR-V; it was destroyed on here, yet sales increased 50% and remained steady for the entire life cycle.

Yes, the camera lens is garbling reality here. And we cannot argue with siegen's sales figures. I do not agree with this constant upsizing of every successive generation of a given nameplate, though. Suddenly there's room below the CR-V for a 2-row crossover in Honda's lineup, and that's not cool, imo.

First thing I thought too, looking at the 1/4 shot had to look at the rear to see if they went for the split window hatch also.

Crosstour, Accord, CRz, CRv, Insight, wow Honda has problems with rear end design.....

It doesn't look so bad in person... While the front seems much more composed, the back end will take a little bit of getting used to. Instead of thinking how much it looks like an Aztec, I try to think that it would look a lot better with a spare tire on the back like the previous generations. Overall, I don't think it is really that bad, and I do believe it will sell well, at least for the foreseeable future.

The interior is not too bad. There are many hard plastics, but they feel pretty good to the touch. The door panels are designed much like the Odysseys', so they don't really cater to the "rugged" look. They are appeasing enough, though, with multiple storage nooks. The one I've seen was an EX-L with Nav. The front area is dominated by a fixed center console, but with a few pockets, cup holders, and a good sized slide-door compartment. The gauges are prettier, with a large analog speedo in the middle, analog tach, water and fuel gauges surrounding it. The speedometer needle floats around the inside of the gauge, and on the outside of a digital display. It also has a color Multi-info display on the dash, ala Civic. There is also a pattern inlay across the dash that mimics a marble-y look. Interior space is about the same, but probably a bit more than the PG. One cool feature was the folding rear seats. MUCH improved design over the outgoing models. I won't spoiler that though

Final note. This was top of the line, I'm assuming, and it had a 2.4L. Grain of salt info, just saying.

I think, given the great sales and better looks of the Equinox, Honda might have slipped on the banana peal here. Also, the new Escape will probably do pretty well with the new version coming.

The biggest winner I see is probably Kia, who's Sportage actually sticks to the original CR-V formula better than the CR-V appears to.
