Back at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz rolled out a stunning concept called the Concept Shooting Break which was Mercedes vision of a CLS wagon. A few months after the showing, Mercedes announced they would be building a production model of it.

Now, spy shots of the CLS Shooting Brake testing around Mercedes-Benz have been released. Most of the camouflage is on the back of vehicle – not surprising. The question is will the styling from B-pillar back resemble the concept. Judging from the pictures of the camouflaged vehicle the answer is yes. Both share a lower roofline at the back, a rounded tailgate, and similar taillights.

The biggest unknown for fans of the three pointed star in US is will the car make it over. The fact is wagons are slowly dying out due to most people either going for vans, crossovers, and SUVs. But a resurgence seems to happening with the number of wagons on and going sale in the US. Audi has the A4 Avant and upcoming A4 Allroad, Cadillac with the CTS Sport Wagon and CTS-V Wagon, Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic and the new E63 Wagon coming next year. If Mercedes-Benz does decide to send the CLS Shooting Brake across the Atlantic, it would most likely have the 4.6L twin turbocharged V8 and the AMG version with the 5.5L twin turbocharged V8.

(Author’s Note: Shooting Brake is most commonly used for wagons that have two doors, not four.)
