If you're looking for something smaller than Chevrolet Sonic subcompact in the US, General Motors has the answer coming to you soon.

Jason Laird, GM's executive director of North American product communications told Green Car Reports today, the Chevrolet Spark minicar will be coming to the US market next year as a 2013 model. The Spark was originally planned to come to the US in 2011, but with GM declaring bankruptcy in 2009, the date was pushed back a year.

Laird tweeted from the Management Briefing Seminar conference in Traverse City, Michigan, that GM product chief Mark Reuss said the "Spark minicar will give #Chevrolet A-B-C-D-E segment coverage for first time in US #MBS2011"

If you're wondering what the letters of the alphabet have to deal with vehicles, its a way in the automotive industry of classifying sizes for different vehicles.

A = Minicar - Chevrolet Spark

B = Subcompact - Chevrolet Sonic

C = Compact - Chevrolet Cruze

D = Mid-size - Chevrolet Malibu

E = Full-size - Chevrolet Impala

It's basically what the Aveo used to be. A cheap $9,995 Korean car for those who want a really, really cheap no-frills new car.

Agreed - this is a car that exists to be cheap above all else. Still, if they made the 2dr hatch & made it handle well, it might actually be kinda cool. 4drs ruined the look completely IMO.

this was one of the reasons the sonic is now made in the USA, because they needed the capacity in Korea to make this car. this could possibly be the cheapest new car in the USA. If they can bring them to market for around 10 grand if might be a decent seller.

I wonder what the fuel economy would be on this? would it be close to 50 mpg? I seen a spark when I was on vacation in the carribbean in February and wow its really small.
