One thing I've never understood. How can people who are clearly in the wrong return the finger?

I was biking today and got cut off by someone who just had to slam on the brakes at the stop light anyways. I let her have it through the open window and gave her the finger. She returned it and truly enraged me. Took everything in me not to beat the living crap out of her in front of her kids. I don't get it - why risk this? I'm clearly already enraged by her, why would she want to make it worse?

Simple! To piss off the people who just gave them the finger and making them stay mad all day long!

In your case: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! LOL!

IRL trolling.

Guess I just don't get that hyper-aggressive point of view.

To me, if I'm in the wrong, I'm going to do what I can do defuse the situation.

That's why I don't give out gestures to motorists in the first place. Because all it does is make people mad, and it's not like I haven't had a couple dumb driving moments either. Nobody is perfect.

As long as I'm safe, that's what matters.

In a perfect logical world, I wouldn't make obscene gestures either. Anger makes us do stupid things. I'm quite happy that I've now limited my anger to where I only give the finger. The last time someone did something this dangerous to me while I was biking (several years ago), I tried to kick in her taillight.

edit - to make it clear that I tried to break it but failed.

She knows there is nothing you can do.

I don't usually give out the finger... as far as I'm concerned, giving the finger is a last ditch effort that implicitly signifies defeat.

I would have [redacted by my lawyer]. Teach them a thing or two.

What's a bit worse is when they're in the wrong, they give YOU the finger, and you have no chance to let them know what an a-hole they really are. That makes me mad for a good while after that.:nono:

My most frequent issue is with people who tailgate. Typically a large SUV with the driver yapping on a cell phone. I am pretty good about keeping to the speed limit.... but I also frequently feel the need to check my brakes... you know.. just in case.

More than once I've seen the person drop the cell phone to grab the wheel with both hands.

Then my sun roof opens and the finger goes up and out.

yup. my finger is reserved for tailgaters and cutter-offers.

although I'd never actually do it, in extreme cases I do wish I could get away with PIT maneuvers.

...but then I might scratch my car. :(

The road that my road branches off has a rather blind curve to the left and the speed limit is 45, so you really have to look carefully and can't dally pulling out. So the other day I am starting to pull out and this girl comes flying around the curve. So I abort and reverse back to the edge of my road, and she angrily throws her hands up and mouths WHAT THE F*CK!!! at me.

It annoys me that I couldn't explain to her that she was coming around the turn very fast and I couldn't see her. But oh well.

I immediately thought of this thread after I flashed #1 this morning to some prick in a 3 series coupe who came within inches of clipping my handlebars with his mirror even though I was as far to the right as I could safely be on an otherwise empty road.

You need a public address system.

Not driving rage, but I've had a few near-incidents of work rage the last few weeks...saw a chair get thrown across a conference room and red faces of rage a few times...

I'm in my 3rd week of a death march due to poor project planning by the clueless client management tools at my client...a couple weeks of almost 80hrs/7days and this week will go be probably 90..but my team of 8 developers have built a hell of a web site and server-side application since starting July 5th...will be in user acceptance test next week.

Been listening to NIN's 'The Downward Spiral' a lot, it's our team theme album...been guzzling Red Bull and Rockstar, and the company has been good enough to cater breakfast/lunch/dinner to the office. Had some very tired drives home (dangerous to drive when exhausted) in the evening.. at least I get paid for every hour, makes it worthwhile I keep telling myself. Some days I feel like I'm way too old for this $h!, don't have the stamina I had at 25.

now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I'm 25 and don't have anywhere near the round-the-clock, all-nighter stamina I had at 22.

It's even harder at 41.. I did a lot of all nighters in college and grad schools and my first startup (when I was 29-30), but at later startups (at age 32 and 38) I didn't have the stamina..what is such a frustration point is this is a Fortune 12 company w/ established major international clients and supposedly good processes (the dev team is great, a really sharp, fun bunch)...

I've always been a night owl, but now I'm...oh God...a month away from being 30.

if I stay up all night on a weekend, I'm not waking up until after noon, and then it's HELL resetting my body clock on Sunday night so that I'll be ready for work the following morning.

I'm kind of in a fog right now... neighbors pulled an all-night, screaming laughing and hollering pool party Wednesday night into Thursday, and another last night, it's just now breaking up.

Getting started on another 15 hr day today...will hit the 80 hr mark for work this week today...still rolling in the sh*t.. by the 1st things should return closer to 'normal'.

If it's the same neighbours that you mentioned in a prior thread, then I think it's time started getting the law on their backs. Seems like they just don't care.
