I just looked out my front window and there was a wild rabbit struggling to drag its hind quarters across the street toward my yard. Seeing how vulnerable the little guy was on the asphalt, I put on some shorts and gloves and went out. He was trying to get away as best he could, but his energy level was low, and after a few pathetic attempts to jump onto the curb, I grabbed him, and as he peed himself, I carried him to my back yard and left him there.

It will take a miracle for him to survive long-term with natural predators about (our houses back to a corn field), but I hope his scared little face lives to see more sunrises. Godspeed, little bunny.

Not sure if he had any digestive system damage back there. Nothing was sticking out that should have been in. It appears his legs are broken at least, perhaps his pelvis and/or back as well.

I couldn't bear to kill him. We didn't butcher on the farm, we always sent what animals we ate out for that... except for a few chickens that were beheaded with an axe by my grandmother... now that was traumatic, seeing them run, headless, squirting blood until they dropped over. UGH.

You could take it to an animal hospital/shelter. They may put it down, although some places will care for them, but either way its better than the suffering its going through now.

Can't blame you for not wanting to kill him, but he's done anyway - some fox will get an easy meal tonight.

So goes nature.

I have tons of the little buggers around this place this year, and Arkus wants one - BAD!

As for the chickens, that's one reason you hang them by their feet first. :AH-HA:

I just spent some time tooling around youtube, helping me ID the screech owls that have been hanging around the house at night, trilling to each other. They'd undoubtedly enjoy some bunny....

Well, ya know, seeing him struggle to maneuver on the asphalt reminded me of a front-wheel drive BMW. Horrifying. I had to take him off the street.

Not sure wha happun to the little fella since I set him down under my deck.
