Sorry KF, I'd go with the Thunderbird (actually Cougar) over any of the Monte Carlos of that generation. Talk to me again a few years into the 80s and my choice would have switched.

And, Drew ... I do like those Thunderbirds/Cougars. By 1978, the MC had downsized to the 3rd generation, while the TB/Cougar stayed "large"...!
