Back in 2009, Sergio Marchionne presented a eight-hour powerpoint presentation detailing the next five years of products for Chrysler. On one of those slides, Chrysler had a B-Segment vehicle due out in 2013 and a C-Segment car due out in 2012. However those two vehicles looked they have been shelved.

Olivier Francois, Chrysler president speaking with Car & Driver at New York Auto Show said the B-Segment Chrysler car is dead. The plan was to do a rebadge job with a Lancia Ypsilon. However, the Ypsilon is related closely with the Fiat 500 and would be too similar to sell in the US market according to Francois.

The C-Segment Chrysler car which would have competed with the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze has been put on indefinite leave. Francois said either Chrysler or Dodge would have ended up with the vehicle and Dodge got it. Dodge president, Ralph Gilles said Dodge would be getting a new vehicle to replace the Caliber and it will be “very competitive”.

But, but, then what will Chrysler be able counter the Cadillac ATS with... and the Cadillac Luxury Urban Concept? Oh, wait, maybe Sergio doesn't need to move Chrysler there... good.

Seriously, though, isn't this is kind of late to be making this decision, considering the Caliber replacement needs to be here in 2012? Either this means that Chrysler is scrapping a nearly complete design or the Dodge version is nowhere near being ready.

Very good decision. Let Dodge compete with the Fiesta and Cruze. Chrysler should be targeting premium marques.

+1

And another +1.
