Some sweet stuff this year but it kinda sucks that the Kennedy Ambulance was pulled for being a forgery.

It was?!!

Wow!

That takes balls to try to do something like that.

Looking forward to the story on the ambulance. Actual one was crushed in '86 at the behest of the Kennedy library- the Pro Car guys dug & got the facts there. I remember asking around online about that ambulance about 6-8 years ago, never got a verifyable answer as to if it existed or not. I believe JFK's hearse is on the market for $1.5M...

There still seems to be some debate on the ambulance.

Last night a pair of 2010 Solstices went across the block. The first and last 2010s produced ahead of Pontiac's demise. VIN# 001 was a coupe that was to be part of a special edition for the 2010 model year all done up in Trans Am blue and white. VIN# 30 was the last 2010 Solstice built. Both cars were GXPs.

Sold as a pair, both went for a paltry 73k.

The ambulance just sold for 120k - tons of documentation seem to show it to be legit.

The letters and correspondence used as proof of legitimacy were forgeries. The Rear Admiral quoted in them left the USN in 1961 and was serving as the head of the National Psychiatric Assn. at the time. I mean whoever wanted to forge it obviously did some research but still.

I was lucky to catch the ambulance- among the usual mayhem in Rancho Balthy- but I never felt the pieces 'clicked' on what they said WRT the 'proof'. At the end, B-J seemed to wash their hands of it.

I'd seen the pics via PCS of what was claimed to be the original ambulance, with the same Navy # on the tail, going into the crusher. Why document the crushing of an ambulance 25 years ago, with the right numbers on it, if it was the wrong car? The one at B-J was obviously restored, yet not accurately (lettering/graphics, missing ambulance equipment, no curtains, etc).

From what I've seen, it seems like a clone. And I absolutely believe the high bid reflected that; if there was no controversy, I believe it would've easily gone for double that.

Filthy minds.

A 2012 one-off Boss 302 mustang went for 450k.

A 1000 HP, mid-engined, radical custom 1963 Corvette only took 120k. The engineering of this car was unreal, I would bet that it cost double that to build.

Pictures and video of the B-J auction of these two Solstices:

I guess this is where the "idea" for that special edition came from (2008 SEMA show car, based on a 2009 Solstice GXP Coupe):

I personally like the white with the blue stripe better. Also, interesting fact that 20 2010 Pontiac Solstices, all GXPs, were made before the facotry shut down.

I didn't go to B-J, but went to the Gooding & Company and Russo & Steele auctions this past weekend. Lots of interesting vintage GMs at both shows.

Some that stick in my mind:

'40 Cadillac Fleetwood 4dr sedan

'49 Cadillac convertible

'57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham 4dr gray w/ stainless steel roof

'57 Eldorado convertible red

'58 Eldorado convertible white

'58 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, turquoise and white, tri-power

'58 Pontiac Bonneville ht -bronze/white

'60 Cadillac ambulance in silver blue

'62 Eldorado convertible red

'57 Olds 88 convertible-silver blue and white. Incredible chrome detailing inside and out

'69 Chevelle Malibu 4dr sedan. A gold plain Jane 307, low mileage, all original..neat survivor.

'72 Riviera GS--reddish bronze w/ white interior, white vinyl top w/ sunroof. Gorgeous.

Many Impalas and other full size Chevys, incl. a white '66 Biscayne 2dr sedan w/ 427.

and a seemingly endless selection of Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, Novas,(incl. an orange '69 COPO), and a couple el Caminos.

At this point, I don't find that as interesting as the fact that Wikipedia had this info in early 2009... including that 8 2010 Sky's were also built.

I would like to know the logic behind the creation of these cars so early.

See, I didn't know that either! :P

I guess I should spend some time away from here and reading more on wikipedia :)

They would have been promo/test drive/adverstising cars, they were given to GM employees to drive and then sold through dealerships. They built a few Skys, an Opel GT or two and a Daewoo or two. Thirty cars in total. They were built during the run of 2009 cars, so they were not the last cars built chronologically.
