American Honda Reports September Sales Increase

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted September sales of 97,361 vehicles, an increase of 26.1 percent, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales reached 912,436, an increase of 3.7 percent versus last year based on the daily selling rate*. Acura Division posted September sales of 10,720, an increase of 47.7 percent versus September 2009, and year-to-date sales reached 96,388, an increase of 26.3 percent based on the daily selling rate.

Honda Division posted September sales of 86,641, an increase of 23.8 percent versus last year. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for September with sales of 24,127, up 15.9 percent, followed by the Civic with sales of 18,637, up 15.8 percent. Sales of Honda light trucks, up 38.2 percent, were led by the CR-V, up 23.0 percent to 17,907, and the Pilot, up 48.2 percent to 8,059. In line with expectations, sales of the all-new CR-Z sport hybrid coupe totaled 1,236 in its first full month on the market.

"Both Honda and Acura Divisions have car and light-truck products with significant momentum in the marketplace," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "Capped by September's 47.7 percent increase, Acura Division sales have been up for eight straight months."

Acura Division's MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 4,077, up 83.6 percent. Combined with RDX sales of 1,382, up 83.8 percent, Acura light truck sales increased 92.1 percent for the month. Acura TL sales totaled 2,514, up 23.6 percent, followed by the TSX with sales of 2,256, up 7.3 percent.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 25 days for September 2010 and 2009. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 228 days for 2010 and 229 days for 2009. All percentages reflect DSR.

how does acura stay afloat?

Honda still really only moves its core models. accord, crv, odysey, civic, pilot. not sure why the people get pilots.

good thing honda does not have to depend on the new vehicles or the niche vehicles to help them stay afloat.
