Datsun Drifting!

Two weeks ago just after I installed the Volvo radiator in my Datsun but before I had a chance to install a cooling fan we had a Blizzard over the weekend. So natrually, clutch fan or not I decided to have some RWD fun in the Datsun. I suck and by no means is this a representation of my drifting ability. We just kept driving from one parking lot to the next and had some jouvenile fun. Try doing this in a Scion, Integra or Civic.

First we went to the Pheasnat Lane Mall, a Security Guard asks us to move the fun somewhere else but is super nice about it. He made it sound like the video recording on Mall property was a bigger deal than the donuts in the snow. Most of the commentary you hear is from XP but our friend Chris is the one taping.

Before he arrived I got in a few seconds of wheel spin.

Next is the Target parking lot... after like a minute the batteries die in Chris' camcorder.

Now it's off to an empty parking lot by Costco. Notice the paper Wendy's Cup I toss at XP as he's raggin on my little Datsun. Don't hate, appreciate!

Plus I almost fall on my ass when I slip on the ice getting out of the car at the end.

For the record a few days later I got a clutch fan off of a 1984 Datsun 300ZX at Lowell Used Auto Parts (junkyard) for a whopping $15 (since I unbolted it myself) & once that went on my little inline-six's water-pump pulley the car's been running cool-as-a-cucumber even in heavy traffic.

Just another reason why my little Datsun kicks a$$. Plus the GM power steerig pump the factorty used makes it like 0.7 % General Motors even in when it was brand new.

Now it has a radiator off a Volvo 240 and a Clutch fan off of the V6 from a 300ZX.

Next is a Turbo off of a diesel Mercedes I'm going to mount in the rear, a blow off valve off of a SAAB, oil lines for the turbo & rear shocks from AutoZone.

He was just a Rent-A-Cop Security Guard for the Mall. He was very firm about no video-recording on Mall Property but was a good sport about the donuts. Actually he said something to the extent of "it's my job to have you guys not do this here but you probably will not run into any problems at Target & Home Depot.... have fun"

Yeah that rent-a-cop was pretty unenthusiastic about kicking us out. It was basically like yeah I'm only telling you to beat it so I don't get fired. Good times in that little $h!pile. We should do that in your Q45 when you bring it home!

Yeah, I saw that it was just Mall security & even if it was a real Nashua cop he/she would still have very little jurisdiction since the Mall is not public property and I was not on a public road. In order for a ticket to be issued I'm pretty sure the ower(s) would have to issue a complaint. Besides, it was harmless, it's not like I was doing the slalom around other cars, it was completely empty in those parkig lots.

Not only will the Q45 get treated with a lot more respect than my $300 Datsun but it would be a lot less fun in that car since it's an automatic. Nonetheless someday years from now when it's paid off an just the backup car like the Datsun started out to be I'll have some fun wiht it. Perhaps I'll take it Ice Racing. Only Pu$$ies ice race with FWD... that's like fishing wiht dynamite.

XP's always raggin on my little Datsun. But hey, any car that is fun to drive & goes 19,400 miles for a purchase price of $300 and about $150 additional in maintenace including oil changes is alright in my book! :sign0200:

We havent had any snow since christmas.

Nos There are places around here to have fun and its called OHIO!

But really sometimes can find a spot to have fun. Like i go to Lake Shore High Schools parking lot since both of its parking lots are some what hidden from the major road.

Does you car always sit that low in the back or did you have sandbags in the trunk?

I have a bad habit of carrying around a lot of junk in my trunk even if I do not need it. This particular occassion there was a baby-stroller, small toolbox full of wrenches & sockets, a box of 1980s car amgazines in the trunk plus all the crap in the back seat.

So how's that litle inline-6 motor sound, huh? Screw flowmasters or cherry-bombs.... I'm running NO muffler!
