While searching through pics, I came across this one. I forgot that my dad had this. My grandpa was in the Vietnam war and sometime when he was in service, they had Marilyn Monroe come to sing at a USO show, basically. He took lots of pics and this is one of them. I just thought it was interesting and I'd share it... :D

I never saw what the big deal was with her. She wasn't sophisticated...just kind of a voluptuous tart.

I wonder what did her in. I don't think that being 36 and starting to pack a few pounds was the basis for it. The whole thing is odd and I guess we will never know.

i don't know about you.....for her time she was quite the sexy woman. vuluptuous curves are one thing, but she's totally sexed up and very come get me. She was subtlely asking you to take her clothes off with her eyes, very nice.

I too would love to become intimate friends with M.M.s personal effects. Very sexy indeed.

Well, she died in 1962, so if your grandfather saw her while serving in Viet Nam, he was there very, very early. Are you sure that's not some dude dressed up as MM to entertain the troops (at least until his skirt blows up... WHOA!)?

:withstupid:

I find nothing attractive about her. It is a shame A-list stars cannot do this anymore, though with what most of them are spouting off I would doubt the soldiers would care much.

Yup., definately Korea. They don;t call it the Forgoten War for nothing.

Compared to her modern-day equivalents - Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan come to mind - I'd take Marilyn any day of the week. She lived in a time where it was acceptable for a model not to look like she was on a hunger strike, plus, she actually had some singing talent. "Studio magic" hadn't been invented yet.

Yeah, I must be one of the few dark haired guys who categorically doesn't look at blondes. Every one has a different standard of beauty. The most beautiful woman on film, in my mind, is Jennifer O'Neill...the object of desire in the classic film "Summer of '42." That is an incredibly beautiful film...in its story about innocence lost, in its cinematography and in its musical score (leave it to Michel Legrand). Behind her would probably be Jacqueline Bisset.. same kind of look. I do not find media-hyped blonde bombshells such as Marilyn and Jayne Mansfield, and more recently Britney and Jessica, attractive....cheap yes, attractive no. That's my opinion and I have LOTS of opinions.

Well, all I really know is that he was in the Vietnam war and that was Marilyn Monroe. I don't know the specifics like if the two are related. He joined in time for the Korean War, though, and I think he was born in '31. Maybe he was in both...

Many people were in both. Both of my grandfathers were in WWII and Korea and one died early in Vietnam. He was one of the first sent over.

yep, I bet thats it. My father born in 27 was in Korea after WWII but was home and out for two years or so before the Korean war started. Timing is everything, he wanted to inlist for WWII but his parents would not let him before 18.

I know Marilyn meant something to those guys but Im sure most people did not know what was going on with her. It seems many many of those old "gals" no wait......... "dames" had perscription drug problems and temperment issues, still happens today I suppose but awareness is better so more people have their act together ?

I will look her up.....

[and I'm only a fan of Jessica cause of her looks too. yes, she's overhyped, but she's got something cute going on under that. and she reminds me of a girl i fell in love with.

Try this link - if someone finds this lady attractive, I doubt they would find Jen, Jessica and Britney attractive - a whole different look.

What an awesome flick. A real classic.

is this tatem o'neil's mother? i can see where she would have dynamic screen presence. that smile is beautiful. yes, she is on a different scale compared to our Jessica and Jennifer's of today---i guess I find something appreciable in them all. Have you checked out Beyonce today?

She's hot & Cocaine did her in. I'll bet $100 dollas on it.

She would be fantastically hot even today, why do you think the fat ass what's her name tries to look like her.

Was that filmed in the late 60/70 period ? Thats the look of the era. Have you noticed all the changes from period to period ? I dont think its just the hair.

I think it was around 1972 but it had subsequent surges in popularity in the 80s and 90s when it dropped from R to PG (without edits, just that things got more relaxed) and was re-released.

And, then, the looks are different because it takes place in 1942 on Martha's Vineyard or the Cape during WWII.

It is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Jennifer O'Neill is DEFINITELY NOT Tatum O'Neals mom. Different spelling and different gene pool. Good God!

Yes, she has had a TON of problems...between 6 and 8 marriages, substance issues and even a suicide attempt. Why? Why? Why? Can't you just effin' try to be happy - I guess being exceptionally beautiful or handsome isn't a guarantee of happiness.

At any rate, if you look at her website, she has found the Lord. Where was he/she/it in the interim? Whatever.

I was going to mentions Anna Nicole Smith.... very true.

It's weird: MM has become this iconic visual- we see her picture/likeness everywhere but her movies are nowhere- it's almost like she's hard to relate to as a sex symbol because she's always so... wait for it..... 2-dimensional. ;)

She's hot IMO, tho many of those sex symbols from the '50s are a bit more zoftig than many of the hottest from today, a downer in my book. And that B&W pic above owes a great deal to underwire technology, it should be noted.

Simpson, on the other hand is physically pretty awesome, IMO. If she had the same degree of real-time/public speaking publicity that MM had, I think opinions would be much more favorable regarding her.

In other words- some beautiful women should just shut up and look beautiful/sexy.

She tanked, didn't she? As did Kathleen Turner. Kathleen Turner is nowhere to be seen. But you can look at her and see that she was headed down that road. Towards the end, she sported some slack in the chin....like they say "you've got more chins than a Chinese phone book."

It is impossible to look at someone like Anna Nicole Smith and even see sexiness. Given what she stands for (the epitome of avarice and deception), she is nothing more than a (now) washed up c*n*.

I ask what is wrong with the old man's kids that they didn't punch him out and set him straight.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that she (allegedly) slept around with President Kennedy had something to do with her demise. You think Jackie ordered a hit?

Marilyn Monroe became famous because she was the first Playmate of the Month,

for Hugh Hefner's new magazine "Playboy" in 1958.

He exploited her famous calender pic in the nude.

Besides her movie career, she was exploited for her several marriages to very

famous people, most notably Joe DiMaggio, of the New York Yankees baseball team.

Her death was allegedly attributed to an overdose of prescription drugs that she took for depression.

One of her most famous exploits was singing a very hot "happy birthday" to then President Jack Kennedy, who allegedly snuck her into the White House for a little

"midnite rendevous" unbeknownst to Jackie at the time.

AND......... since most of you are too young to know, here is the famous

"calender pose" that shot her fame up!

its MARILYN MARILYN

Natalie Wood possessed classic beauty...along the lines that Rachel Ward or Selma Hayek (sp) would today.

Incidentally, Natalie Wood was Russian, her given name probably being Natalia.

And, if we were to open a tasteless joke thread, you've all heard the one:

"What kind of wood doesn't float"?

Back to the thread.

Grow up Turbojett!

What is wrong with a 40 year-old picture that shows breasts, but not genitiala?

It is no more out of place than the Mona Lisa or any of Monet's nude paintings!

You guys post all sorts of inuendoes, that I find more offensive, so who is to judge?

Besides the feminine pic business was started with the boobie shots of Natalie Wood. Are they less offensive because her nipples aren't exposed?

Then don't ever read or look at a National Geographic magazine!

I see the "nazi patrol" has been at it again.......... I have heard the word "FAG"

many times in many offices! Why was it removed as obscene? :pbjtime:

Tart or no, Marilyn has always seemed fascinating to me.

Natalie Wood always reminds me of this lady, due to a particular movie. Something about her for me though

No way, Razor. I noticed the links and that's Dyan Cannon. Maybe they were of the same era (more or less), but in no way are they similar to me. Dyan Cannon plays "racy" half the time - Natalie Wood almost never did.

Incidentally, Dyan Cannon is from Tacoma WA. Other than Weyehaeuser pulp mills, she's probably that town's only other claim to fame. (Tacoma is heavily ragged on by Seattle).

They are about the same age within a year or so.

I dont judge people for where they came, Im sure there are great people living in Tacoma just the same as there are rotten people living in the places of great claim to fame. The sad part is when they forgot from where they came, as was one of Marilyns problems, Im sure she had her moments of reckoning toward the end.

Ya gotta wonder what it was with those older actresses, maybe doctors made it too easy and they just got all wacked out........like Judy Garland and so many others. Well Judy started young.........like our boy Mikey  we all see how that worked out for him too. Then theres Wynona Ryder....... must be it messes you up, all the fame and pressure, ease of life, money money money, then nothing.

Interesting factoid I learned today: Be they Marilyn Monroe voluptuous types or today's skinny models, they all have the same basic proportions. Throughout societies, the ideal size may change, but in all of them, the ideal is for a woman to have a waist that is 2/3 as wide as the hips, hence the 36-24-36 as the ideal number.

It's not that. It's that I have easily driven between my place in a Seattle suburb when I lived there and my parents' house in Portland 200 times, requiring that you go across Tacoma on I-5 en route. It is really, really sleepy...and the constant gray sky hanging over it doesn't help. Yes, Tacoma has some nice neighborhoods and, with all that water around, a lot of nice views.

It's just that it's hard to think of Dyan Cannon (who is very 70s LA in my mind) as being from Tacoma -- she put that place in her rear view mirror real fast

You're the one posting contraband and I'M the one that needs to grow up? Please.

It is obscene because it is a nude photograph, and it qualifies as blatant pornography (NOT and artistic nude), which is forbidden in that little contract you agreed to when you singed up for this place. Monet's stuff however qualifies as art, but also seeing as it does show something that isn't allowed on television, It too isn't allowed here.

I doubt your boss would allow that centerfold to be posted up on the side of your cubicle, now would he?

This is common sense. Nudes are not allowed. Ever.

And if you're so offended by all the "fag talk" that's going around, ignore it or deal with it, and stop being a homophobe. I'm straight, and I'm tolerant of it, there's no reason for you not to be either. We all live in and have to share the same world. They have the same rights as you do. If that's something you can't handle, then you have a serious problem.
