We all got conditioned to having it in the steering column. Then, after renting Intrigues, GPs and Malibus, I found that having it in the dash is kind of cool.

Slap on the wrist to LaCrosse and Lucerne for having it on the column.

Why? Column-mounted is the most natural position, IMO. Just a flick of your wrist. SAAB has the single most irritating ignition system. Its unnatural, robs console space, and makes everything else on your keyring just sort of fall down somewhere on the ignition itself. If its so 'safe,' then why not just offer keyless ignitions, d'uh.

Column mounted ignitions suck more @$$ than a Crack Whore Tranny!

One of the few things that is not perfect about a 1969 Camaro is that the got relocated to the steering column, one of the reasons why I've always said that I'll put a 67/68 Interior in my eventual 1969 Camaro ProTouring car.

DASHBOARD all the way!

I'll agree wiht you about SAAB, it's kind of a silly place for an ignition.

SAAB's setup is weird and useless... the keys end up in the way of the E-brake.

Porsche has an interesting ignition setup:

On the steering "dash" or whatever

Having driven the Camaro with it on that "dash," I much prefer it to the GP's on the actual dashboard. Even if the GP does have auto start (I'm jealous).

I like it on the dash..the old-school approach that some makers never quit doing and some have come back to.

I also like the left side on the dash position, like Porsches and early GTOs..(even though I'm not left-handed).

over the 2, I prefer when its o the dash.... but you are missing the obvious choice for me wich would be........between the 2 seats near the parking brake arm.  ;-)

im with that it works well

Wait, you're as smart as you are and you're NOT left-handed?

I prefer on the dash, but the keys should dangle as opposed to rubbing against the dash.

I did not need a key to start my Buick (it had no starter button and the ingition was not worn, either). Best of both worlds, tho I have not retained that feature.

So how did you start your Buick, Balthy? Hot wire it?
