Just for kicks, take the lowest trim Nissan Titan (XE) 4x4 and compare it vs. the lowest-trim Chevrolet Silervado 4x4 (LS). To be fair, make sure you pick the 5.3l Silverado; it's fairly comparable hp-wise, but lacks about 40ft-lbs of torque.. but is a bit of a push in my book as the Silverado gets better gas mileage. The Titan XE starts out at $26,600 less that $2250 discount and the truck sells for $24,350 (note that $3k rebate is only available for the King Cab model, it's $2250 for everything else). The Silverado starts out at $25,565 less the $2500 discount and the truck is $23,065.

So, Chevrolet's not your rebate-leader in the truck field! Chevrolet IS a tremendous value. One might note that the Silverado LS gives you dual a/c, power locks, rear heat, auto headlights and a long-bed for that price -- and the Nissan Titan XE does not. Now you know why the Titan needs the discounts it does (and still doesn't sell worth a ***).

Well, to be fair, the Silverado always had rebates higher than that for quite some time, until they recently reduced the MSRP's a bit, while simultaneously cutting down the size of most rebates.

Still, it is a good point to show how even Nissan has to result to the same things a lot of domestics do in order to move product.

The difference with the Silverado is that it's very old though. The Titan is still relatively new to the market.

I bet the rebate jumps even more when the T900 trucks and Tundra come market.

They're not flooding the market with anything. Their presence is so small it's hardly noticed. I don't think they have double digit market share. They may outsell the Toyota and that's about it.

For Nissan this truck is a huge dissapointment, any way you cut it. And things aren't going to get better with the new GM trucks on the horizon, and the new Toyota (probably it's biggest competitor).

Nissan is a very resilient company, though. If a product doesn't perform to their expectations, they take it back to the drawing boards and work out what's wrong. Case in point: The Altima and Quest interiors. Nissan took a lot of flak for them (especially the Quest's) so when the time came for a refresh, they gave the interiors a complete overhaul. In the Altima's case, it must've helped loads since it's currently one of the top 10 selling cars in North America.

I'm not so sure they can't work the same magic with the Titan.

if you shop the ads you see that Nissan incentivizes their product as much or more than GM.

the new Quest interior is just an IP rehash. it doesn't go as far as that redo needed to go. its half assed.

the titan? a pretty unrefined truck. the F150 is a much more refined truck. i predict ass kicking success for the new Silverado when it hits.

This is true but then...sales are still on the rise. Incentives may play a part in that but incenvites alone don't sell a product most of the time.

Nissan must've figured: Why fix what (apparently) isn't broke? Save the heavy, cash-intensive renovations for the new vehicles and the products that are struggling.

as anyone considered that the titan doesn't sell because it's so freaking UGLY?!?!? i mean damn, the thing looks like it's father was 'jaws' from the late 70's james bond movies. and no long bed option or regular cab option? just plain stupid.
