Titan Onyx Concept Shown at Chicago Auto Show [Feb. 8, 06]

CHICAGO (Feb. 8, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today unveiled the Titan Onyx, a concept version of Nissan’s popular full-size Titan pickup. Designed to add a new level of visual appeal for customers who seek higher levels of customization, the Titan Onyx is highlighted by 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome running boards and a unique grille and deep front valance.

Inside, the Titan Onyx features black interior trim, “satin” gauge bezels, embroidered floor mats, aluminum brake and accelerator pedals and special accents on the steering wheel and head restraints.

“With its powerful engine, rugged frame and innovative utility systems, the Nissan Titan provides a great foundation for developing special concept editions such as the Titan Onyx,” said Brad Bradshaw, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “We know that there are buyers looking for more attitude, presence and upscale appearance – trucks that, like this Onyx Concept, offer distinction from other vehicles on the road.”

The 2006 Nissan Titan is available in King Cab and Crew Cab body styles, each available with a standard 305 horsepower 5.6-liter DOHC V8 and a choice of 4x4 and 4x2 drive.

Onyx is a bad name for anything but onyx itself. As far as the truck. Wow. Nice bumpers. Its like an episode of Overhaulin' ended early and ran out of cash.

Is it really a "concept" when all you do is change the bumper, add some bigger wheels and interior brightwork?

That bumper does not work at all - it fits poorly, doesn't flow with the rest of the design (despite the overwrought new grill), and is just generally ugly.

I don't think those wheels were the best choice for this truck, either, though they're not bad by themselves. I think it's the color of the truck - these would look better on a red truck, for example. I prefer chiseled, geometric (that go with the chiseled design of the truck) wheels as opposed to the curves of these, which lend a delicate aire.

Personally too, I think matte or polished wheels look better on grey vehicles, but that's just my preference.

Other than that I love it.

Oh, yeah! Nissan already did it 20 years ago with the 300ZX (and if you think this is bad, you should see the Leather version... I wasn't able to find pics of it, though):

Yikes!

The Titan looked good enough the way it was. The bumper and grille look just flat-out terrible. Good god, it looks like a study hall drawing gone wrong.
