So, how is this for unusual. The Cadillac SRX has won Car and Drivers Luxury Sport Utility of the year for the 3rd consecutive year. How odd is that. The magazine that has been accused of being anti-domestic for years gives the award to the SRX.

And instead of the SRX being a market success it is wallowing around on dealer lots, not coming anywhere near hoped for sales predictions.

It seems GM just can't seem to win for trying.

My guess would be that most luxury SUV buyers would give up some of the performance the SRX offers (the V6 is a quick bugger, considering its size) for an interior that is a bit friendlier.

I like the SRX and really have no issues with it. I've even enjoyed driving them when I've gotten the chance.

Other than the fact it's a bit too "station-wagony" for me to buy, I think it's a nicely-designed piece.

It's Car and Driver after all... the SUV that has the most carlike handling will win. You have to remember they were once Sports Car Illustrated.

From all the reviews I've read, the SRX is a good drive... strong engine, excellent transmission, and predictable handling. I think its mediocre real-world sales are attributable to the cheap interior... when you spend $60K on an SUV, you expect it to be luxurious, and the SRX just isn't.

Yes, it has a $30k CTS interior on a vehicle pushing $60k in many trims. Again, for a $35k SRX, the interior is just fine, but once the price goes up, so should the interior.

The thing is priced way too high compared to the competition (and the CTS), and it looks very station wagony, as mentioned above. In my brief drive of one, I wasn't very impressed. I preferred both the X5 and the new ML350, but I think normal cars are superior to all of these.

I reviewed the SRX soon after it came out, and concluded that the X5-like price was way too high. They recently lowered the price a bit, which should help. My site (www.truedelta.com) provides apples to apples price comparisons for anyone interested in seeing how the price compares.

I also wished for sportier handling at the time. GM puts such dull steering in its vehicles--including the Corvette.

But in general I've had trouble convincing people they should even look at this car--and I live near Detroit! The hard-edged styling doesn't seem to suit the typical consumer in this segment. Probably because many are women. It seems few people get as far as sitting in one, and thus be disappointed by the interior.

I really like the SRX except for the CTS interior.

And in person to me, it seems big for some reason.
