It occurred to me today that I never shared any of my pictures from my trip last month, so now I guess would be as good a time as any! Very lucky to visit the Pima Air and Space Museum whose inventory includes a VC-137 like those used by Kennedy as well as Eisenhower's Constellation and Truman's DC-4. Not to mention a Convair B-36 Peacemaker. The Constellation has to be my all-time favorite aircraft so it was nice to finally see one in person. Also paid a visit to the Barry Goldwater memorial park and took in a Suns game.

Great pic:

The Superstition Mountains, out east of Apache Junction, IIRC.

Awesome shots! Right about now I'm envious of that...uh...climate even just visible in AZ... 8)

The winter weather is great here, no doubt. But May-September can be hell on earth, esp. July and August.

Love the contrast of rock/dust and vegetation! :)

With the rains we've had lately, it should be nice and bloomy w/ flowers out in the desert by March...looking forward to taking a drive out to Tortilla Flat, maybe up to Superior and Globe and the Salt River Canyon.

Thanks for posting the pictures, von. Surely, coming from AB, you must have really appreciated the change in weather and stark contrast in scenery. Sheez, I had no clue Goldwater lived to be over 90!

I don't know about AZ...for me, anyway. One of my really good childhood friends moved from SoCal to Las Vegas where she could afford a (new) home, in nice quiet suburb actually, and she seems to like it. I went there in August 2007 and I can do without the 106 F. It feels like your skin is burning when you step outside in the middle of the day. I still maintain that a humid South Florida summer in the low 90s with high humidity is a little easier than a desert Southwest summer. Any agreement on that from those who know Miami, New Orleans or Houston?

By the way, what kind of a rental sled did you ultimately get (in case I missed that currently)?

106 is a mild late May, June or Sept midday temp in Phoenix. It's really uncomfortable when it's 110-115 for days on end.

In July '08, I went from 110 and dry in Phoenix in July to Miami and the Keys where it was about 98 w/ 98% humidity for a few days and came back. Quite a contrast. I spent my first 26 years in humid climates (E/NE Ohio, S. Florida, SE Michigan) and most of the last 13 years in very dry climates (AZ, CO). I love Miami and the Keys in the fall/spring/winter.. and the Phoenix area is pretty nice from October through April.

I guess it's all about what you get used to... having good A/C, a pool, and lots of cold drinks w/ ice is the only way I've been able to tolerate AZ heat..
