Just reading the name of this thread, I think of a white Sebring "speeding" around a track. Bad thought.

Ironically I don't think I've ever seen a Sebring Racing at sebring.

Lots of Camero's have graced the historic asphalt though.

I'll just let pictures tell this joke for me.

The Camaro pulled the look off much better..

You get no argument from me there. There's just some innate Mustang driver instinct in me that drives me to have some fun at the expense of Camaros from time to time.

Theres a few road race fans here. I follow some of the series and make a few posts when GM gets some good results, which has been alot and all of the major events, but still very little responce. This is a great place if interior plastics and their exact arrangement is your fetish

I look forward to Sebring and Daytona but from the livingroom. This year we hope to make the ALMS at Limerock, Id like to catch a Rolex GrandAm at Watkins Glen but I doubt we will this year. We've been to the Rolex historic (Limerock) twice now and thats fun. Ferrari/Maserati weekend once, that really meant alot to me.

I do dream of getting to Sebring someday and I thought that road Atlanta race I watched this year was awsome, thats quite a track too.

Why do you say this is a Sebring ? I dont recognize the car but it looks more like a Daytona Prototype to me.

No,.. I said there's No Confusing this with a Sebring.

That's a Bentley Prototype that ran in the ALMS Series. It would run circles around a "Daytona prototype" car that runs in the RoLex Series.

Sorry "There is NO mistaking that for a Sebring!!! " Imeadiately after a posts regarding the "Sebring" and "Camaro" I was lost.

I thought all the LMP's were open cockpit cars ?

While Im sure they are somewhat faster I dont think there would be much running circles, if so that would mean the C6R would outrun the DP's as well, and I didnt see the C5R's doing that at Daytona. I think those DP's are pretty fast, light, aero. I wouldnt take any credit away from the DP & the Rolex series, very competitive, very interesting racing.

Yep the LMP cars are Open cockpit. But at Sebring they will give ACO teams exemptions. They modify them to make them competitive with the field, and they get some drive time to tune up for The 24 Hours of LeMans. They had some ACO Maserati's and Saleens last year that ran with the GTO class.

Not a Big fan of the Rolex Daytona Series. It's like the IROC of Sports Car Road Racing. Pretty Much equally prepared cars. Hardly Prototypes when compared to the ALMS or ACO cars. i like all kinds of racing and I watch it, But The 24 Hours of Daytona lost it's Luster when they split with the ALMS / IMSA and went with the NASCAR Sports Car Series

Naw, its a great series, theres 5 or 6 car builders 5 or 6 engine manufactures. Quite a few endurance races, DP cars on the track with GT cars. Not as exclusive as LM but that is the point.......not as expensive. I am worried about how its growing though. The builders were saying orders were up for this comming season and some teams were going to field 3 cars..........now I do see NASCAR results comming to a Field that had some great lap racing....already doing too many under caution....we'll see next season, I hope they realize the wall they are headed toward and put cap on the field before it becomes the farce that "stock car" racing became.

" They had some ACO Maserati's and Saleens last year that ran with the GTO class."

What class is GTO ?

Posted

I say GTO. It's called GT1 now. But GT"O" stood for GT cars with an engine "Over" a certain displacement. (don't know what the cutoff is off the top of my head). Then they had the GT"U" which was "Under". Now it's called GT2

GT1, (GTO) Corvettes, Vipers, Maseratti, Aston Martin, Ferrari

The GT2 (GTU) class has become pretty much a Porsche 911 race with the exeption of a couple Panoz, and TVR's.

Hoping that Ford and Chevy can put out something that can keep up and get some Mustangs and Camaros back in the fray

It was GTS & GT before the 1&2 change last year. Not sure about mid 90's or 80's.

GTO was makin the Porsche work for the money last season in GT Rolex Grand American, they could very well do it in ALMS but they have that big displacement that may not be allowed in GT2, Im not sure. In a few months Ill start reading more about these upcomming seasons.

In fact the season finale between a GTO & Porsche team for champion points resulted in some of the best race footage Ive ever seen in the last few laps. I didnt get it recorded either.

Porsches can completely cut corner

Porsches can fly

Porsches can fly - land on side of GTO and bounce GTO off track

Then continue to flag and not get disqualified.

Klink "very, very interesting"

Shultz "I see nothing"

Na, sorry, Im a bit deeper than that.

lol,.. It's just a joke.

I'll be at the Daytona 24 watching. But wishing they had some better hardware, more akin to ALMS or ACO cars, on the track.
