So I've got this guy I know from the TDI Club named Jess that came to our club dinner last night. Jess is into TDI's and Miatas, so we get along pretty well. What's impressive about Jess is his job-he collects eyes from human donors for transplant. Interesting full time job...

And Jess's TDI Golf is a quick little car, but it's neither stock nor EPA legal. In fact, given the right conditions (AC, downshift, full throttle) it will create about as much soot as a good coal fired Chinese power plant.

Anyhow...one day Jess is out and about in his TDI Golf going to put a set of eyes on ice. He's going about 70 passing a semi going 65 when a nearly new Camry rolls up on his back bumper. Guy is so close you can't see the front plate on the Camry, flashing his lights, giving Jess the finger waving his fist, honking and in general being a complete asshat.

...so Jess downshifts, drops the AC on, and puts the loud pedal to the floor. HUGE cloud of black smoke...can barely see the Camry in the rearview. Guy in the Camry STANDS on the brakes with this OH $h!OH$h!OH$h! look on his face. The ABS in the Camry doesn't kick in, all 4 tires lock and now there is a huge cloud of white tire smoke to go with the black soot.

Trucker in the Kenworth is just LAUGHING HIS ASS OFF and gives Jess a huge thumbs up.

Camry driver comes back by, the thumpthumpthumpthump of four badly flat spotted tires to loud to ignore. Goes past Jess and won't even look at him.

While I don't "Condone" road rage, I find the story funny as hell.

Excellent. And the guy in the Camry was raging, not Jess, imo. Jess was merely pulling a Buford Pusser on Camry guy.

Why on earth anybody would be pissed to be going faster than the speed limit is beyond me.

Hm, well let's think about this for a minute...if someone is passing someone else and only going marginally faster than they are, and you have been on cruise significantly faster, that's obnoxious.

Down in LA, speed limits on freeways are generally 65 (a few are as low as 55, namely the Hollywood south of the split, the Santa Ana until the East LA interchange, the San Bernardino near the split, and the Harbor and Pasadena north of the 10), but quite a bit of traffic goes 80-85. Slower traffic should keep right, but rarely does. It can be annoying when there is no reason to be going at the speed limit or barely above, and someone is doing just that and holding up traffic.

I can usually get from USC to Palos Verdes in about 30-40 minutes, so barring an accident or road work, why should it take me 45-50? Time is money, and every second that slips away is a moment in time you will never get back.

i'd assume your highway is more than 2 lanes...?
