Complete forums for Ford? I suppose C&G is becoming less GM-oriented?

We're expanding our scope to include more news about Ford and Chrysler to appeal to more people while still focusing on GM.

IMHO, a good move. Luckily, the 'Cheers and Gears' name does not limit you to GM only news.

Yeah I like the move, because this site has always had members that were more than just GM fans, and its why I joined it and like it, that and the news. So I think it helps build on that.

Created Volvo under "The Ford Family"

Should Mazda go there also?

Ford owns only 13.4% in Mazda and will be about selling the Volvo brands. While Volvo makes sense to be in Ford, Mazda should go under Japanese vehicles.

but isn't everything had Mazda except the RX platform shared with Ford?

True. But when you say Ford group, you normally think about brand names owned by the company with controlling interests. Now it seems like two companies trying to share development costs.

Here is something about the future of the relationship.

Added "The Chrysler Family"

and "Dodge", "Chrysler", "Jeep"

Should I add "Ram" now or later?

IMHO, add it now. They've spent the money and started a public blitz, so they aren't going to reverse course now.

Moved "Project Phoenix", "The Chevelle Project", and "Operation Arrowhead" to "C&G Design Studio"

Removed "Cheers and Gears Skunkworks"

You, Z, and I should talk about that at some point...

Thanks for moving GM over top the brands, but wouldn't it make sense to put the brands in alphabetical order?

I was trying to keep them in the Alfred Sloan order with the non-US brands and dead brands at the end.

Oh I understood what you were doing, but newbies may not have the same knowledge as we do, and find it confusing, just a thought ...

+1 I like this. N00bs might struggle for about 5 minutes...but we're an enthusiast site, and at the very least a n00b will experience a "teachable moment."

What about a subforum for long dead domestic brands, i.e. LaSalle, AMC, Packard, Hudson, etc? It could just be a single subforum for all, maybe stuffed under domestic independents? Every once in a while someone posts an interesting article or comments that end up in the lounge because there is no where else to put it.

So wouldn't it be time to move Saab elsewhere and drop Pontiac down by Saturn, Hummer and Olds?

Posted

I post the news daily and I can tell you some changes that are needed off the top of my head because of where I have had to put news

SAAB needs to be taken out of GM and moved to other guys and housed as SAAB and Spyker

Volvo needs to be taken out of Ford and moved to Other Guys

Ford Australia needs to be created

Ford Global needs to be created which would cover China, Brazil etc.

Current GM brands need to be moved to the top while missed defunct brands to the lower GM family.

Land Rover and Jaguar need a forum.

Suzuki needs to be moved to Japanese makes or to Volkswagen as Volkswagen owns part of them

Fiat and Chrysler need to be housed together

A Shanghai or GM China needs to be created

I hope this helps.

While I agree with most of your moves. I am actually looking to consolidate the number of forums instead of increase them. Any suggestions for forum consolidations are welcome.

Olds, Hummer, Saturn and Pontiac into "Defunct GM Brands"

Combine Holden, Opel and Vauxhall into "GM Worldwide Partners"

Maybe create a single forum for "GM Merchandise", "Member Marketplace" and "Auctions and Classifieds"

An aside suggestion: Move "C&G Features" up where it would be more prominent instead of buried between "Auto Show coverage" and "Sales Ticker"
