Here is the deal I need to select a system/gaming series I want to play. I was going to go with a PS3 and GT5 but frankly I am SICK of waiting, and now it will be until at least end of March 2010 before it is out. I am comparing a PS3 120 GB Slim to a XBOX 360 120 GB Elite just in case anyone was wondering. I DO NOT have any idea of the an updated car list for GT5 except the fact it will have all GT4 cars plus another 200-300 new ones. I am a die-hard Playstation and Gran Turismo fan until... I saw the offical Forza 3 car list which includes lots of good stuff. (more on that later) I am really only buying a system/game for the domestic cars anyways with the exception of a few forigen things that both GT5 (most likely will) and Forza 3 have.

The problem PS3 is wireless 360 is not, and would mean I would have to run a ethernet cable to my 360 across the house. :hissyfit: I understand there is a wireless adapter for Microsoft for only $100, and trust me I am not about to give them that for one! Next problem PS3 online play is free and for the Gold XBOX Live you need to pay... Also the PS3 plays Blu-Ray for the HD-TV I don't have yet... So on that front alone the PS3 wins...

Having said that my primary purpose for this system won't be internet game play but career mode in the game and advancing in it (unlocking/buying cars). Since I know very little about this do you need an XBOX Live Gold to download the car pack/track packs you get to download for free with the game, anyone know? (I haven't been able to find this anyhwere!) Or will it work fine with just the "free" Silver XBOX Live? *Online playing is not important, just downloading **even paying** for updates of tracks and cars is all I care about.*

I still do not know exactly what cars will be featured in GT5 but it will likely have more American cars including the C6 ZR-1 which I can't get in Forza 3 yet, because the VIP/Limited Edition package is sold out, I am willing to bet the ZR-1 will come as a DLC down the road. I still want the ZR-1 at sometime, even if I have to pay for it, but currently it is only with the LE game. (STUPID!) Anyways this is about the cars, from GM, Ford and Chrysler... And for FORZA has great selection from the big three... So should I go for it, or wait... I really would like to enjoy it over X-Mas break though. Anyone who knows anything about XBOX or just wants to share there view please feel free too.. In the mean time digital car porn...

Nice selection of cars, but I am going to hold out for GT5. I am getting a PS3 fairly soon and having wireless and blue-ray sold me on it over the 360. GT5 development takes so long because they are meticulous about the end product...which is worth the wait, IMO. Also, the graphics in GT5 look to be quite a bit better than Forza, with better reflection mapping and higher detail background scenery.

GT4 has atleast 60% of the cars pictured. I'm sure GT5 will best that.

In addition, patience is a virtue. I'm holding out for GT5 because it will be well worth the wait. Having played Forza 3, it's still a second tier racing game in my opinion. Besides graphics, I didn't even think it was on par with the simulation presented in GT4. The physics and driving characteristics are still lacking. I did think the clutch feature was nifty, however, not that I had a chance to try it out.

Thanks for the thoughts. I just fear GT5 will not have such neat offering of cars such as the third generation f-body's and such a good variety of Poncho's. I am starting to lean towards the BOX please someone talk me out of it!

I couldn't wait any longer. I gave in and order a XBOX 360 Elite 120 gb from Dell with two games for $269.99! Both it and Forza are on there way. I am not saying I won't get a PS3 and GT5 at some point but rest assured I will be waiting for another price drop or two! :smilewide:

"Complete" list of cars for GT5: http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/automotive-news/181936-ps3s-gran-turismo-5-complete-list-of-cars.html

You can drive an '83 Skyhawk T-Type in GT5. You can also "drive" the '90 Fiero prototype. :roflmao:

Why they have every model of Trans Am except for a '77 SE is strange.

So far, it looks like GT5 is going to have most every car made. That list dates back to September of 2007 so who knows what they've added since then.

GT4 takes an eon to beat. I don't want to think how long it would take to beat GT5 and unlock and buy/win every car on that list. I don't care what anyone says, chances are you'll get sick of playing it before you have everything.

I think GT5 will be the more complete game, with more cars, better physics, more varied racing, and better graphics, when it comes out in 2035 or so.

Sony fanboy...

How can you be so convinced of a game that didn't even come out yet?

I don't care what system its on, it just happens to be on Sony platforms.

Right, I'm a Sony fanboy and the last console I played was my Dreamcast.

Just go watch videos of both games in action on say, ign.com and compare for yourself the graphics. Or I'll save you the effort and show you some stills.

Forza 3

It has more racing modes, hell it even has NASCAR for people who like to go in circles.

GT has always been about the most realistic driving experience possible.

I broke down and bought Forza 3 today. It far surpasses GT4 in quite a lot of ways. You also get a lot of bonus content when you buy the game that I wasn't expecting (a second disc with extra cars and tracks and a download card with more extra cars and tracks).

The Marketplace is a cool feature.

I posted about Foroza 3 when it came out on these message boards trying to get a league together or a bunch of guys to race with. I got no responses. If anyone want to race online this is my gamertag: NEXTEL CUP I mostly play Foroza 3 and Call of Duty and a ton of HALO 3.

I would hope a game a few years newer would be better than an older game. :P

:P

GT4 has been the benchmark for racing simulators since it debuted. Forza is now the benchmark.

I obviously don't count GT5: Prologue because it isn't a complete game (but it is a complete joke).

I would, but I don't think I'll be renewing my Gold account for a little while.

My gold will be gone soon as well, but I am loving the game. I am not going to keep gold because I am not a big online gamer and nor will I miss the online racing or auction house. As long as I can get car/track packs on silver I am happy.

I know I did too. I will be picking up a PS3 someday... Not anytime soon though.

I think the Auction House only requires a Silver account. I could be wrong, though. I haven't bothered with it yet.

Same here. The PS3 finally is at the right price and can really give the 360 some serious competition. The built-in wireless features, Blu-Ray player, web browser, and free online services are nice pluses that the 360 doesn't have and really should have.

Can you please check that when you go to silver? (It will most likely be, before I do.) I am dying to know, as I will be going to silver too soon. (Whenever my trial ends!) I think gold only gives you the online racing and store front, but I might be wrong as well.

I agree totally, I had to drill ANOTHER hole in the floor to run my $20.00 ethernet cable to the 360, no way I was giving Microsoft $100 for a black wireless adapter.

I know for sure that the Storefront can be accessed with a Silver account. I bought a "Bandit" scheme for the T/A I have in Forza 3 (c'mon, were you expecting anything less?) from it and I've had a Silver account since my Gold expired all the way back in February. I can understand online game play being Gold-only, but not the Auction House if the Storefront can be accessed with a Silver account since they follow a similar concept.

You could, alternatively, buy another DSL/Cable broadband modem, hook it into your Xbox like you do your PC, and use Xbox Live that way. The only downside is that, if you're on Live, you can't access the internet from any computer in the house.

I understand and you can still you use get the DLC for the car/track packs right? Also what about photo mode? Thanks so much whiteknight for the help so far! Other than that I have no questions, so if you could double check if you can take the photos and upload them to your account and check on the car/track packs. Did you get the Hyundai one that is free on XBOX LIVE? It is pretty cool.

All should still function with a Silver account, including the download card. You still can download content with a Silver account.

Don't mention it. :)

I'll double check everything just to make sure and get back with you with any updates. Hmmm ... what's the Hyundai pack like? I didn't know it was out there.

I ended up doing what I said, got a $20.00 white ethernet cord and some things to tack it to the bottom of the floor (top if your in my unfinished basement) and did it that way. I have $29.00 in it and a secure and faster wired connection. I just simply moved my ethernet from my main computer to the USB output on my Qwest/Actiontec IRS and plugged the XBOX in. It was cheap of them only to give you like 5ft of cable, I guess thats so you buy the $100 adapter and I DIDN'T do that, because that is exactly what they want you to do! :neenerneener: I ended up needing 50ft of cable!

Thanks so much, the Hyundai pack contains three Genesis coupes, one of them is driven by Rhys Millen I do believe. (The Red Bull one!) Two other niffy looking custom jobs also! If you could check on the photomode and DLC via the Hyundai pack that would be great! Thanks again, I think you'll like the pack, and who wouldn't its free. You will be able to get another Audi S4 on the 12/8/09 as the "preview or demo" for the Holiday supercar pack! That will be 400 pts by the way.
