Solstice with a Bed Cap?

Ghost Dog

After going back and looking at it, it's incredible. Seriously, this would tackle every issue people have with the Solstice. Yes, its a roadster and shouldnt have much trunk space nor a back seat, but this would give the naysayers something less to bitch about. Man, that's so cool.

German to English translation thanks to alta vista babelfish:

photo one caption: The automobile supplier Edag presents a Pontiac Solstice with combination roof on Detroit car show.

photo two caption: Optically it leans itself the Solstice against the Pontiac safari station Wagon from and the 60 it 50's. (doesn't make a lot of sense gramatically but you get the idea)

photo three caption: For the Pontiac Solstice Edag engineers a special Hardtop including a new trunk lid sketched. (same problem as the 2nd caption)

photo four caption: Thus an elegant variant of a sport combination becomes from the roadster. (the same)

The last picture looks a lot like the Kappa-based Chevy Nomad concept's roof (was it the inspiration for the design?) It gives the Solstice (and presumably the SKY) more utility to make it an everyday driver.

This will be at the NAIAS??? :metal: Edited by GMTruckGuy74

From EDAG (Jan 3)

World premiere at the Detroit Motor Show 2006
In its first-ever appearance at the Detroit Motor Show, EDAG will exhibit two show cars as proof of its competence when it comes to innovative development solutions, including small series production.
A world premiere will be the display of the Pontiac Solstice in a hardtop version. The American sports convertible comes from the factory with a cloth top which disappears under a flap in the back when retracted. The EDAG designers have designed a special hardtop, including a new boot flap, for the Solstice which not only puts a solid roof over the driver’s head, but also gives the car a completely new appearance. Inspired by the Pontiac Safari station wagons of the 1950s and 1960s, the EDAG designers have come up with a dynamic, elegant and contemporary variant of a sports estate.

They could easily make 3 different styles of optional hardtops, fastback would look better to me as well. this could serve purpose of luggage area but would not serve purpose of luggage area of in roadster mode. I not really crazy over the top we see on the "club racer" either. Its way too much like a 92-99 LeSabre roof, nothing sporty about that.

I have a feeling if this were the 1950's or 60's we'd have several different Solstices out on the roads already. The variations are too hard to ignore.

Looks like the Kappa-Nomad concept, a M-roadster and a Solstice had a Menage-a-Trois. (sp?)

Now if some German company can bolt on of these on how hard would it be for GM to bolt on the Concept fast back coupe?

[post="67436"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]

Not hard.

Heck I can see the aftermarket doing it if GM doesn't. Roush, Saleen, ASC could all do a really good aftermarket bolt on fastback roof for the Solstice. Just remore soft top and bolt on hard top.

the front page says there is a Kappa Chevy in the works, wouldn't this be hiding the Nomad in plain sight? the Kappas are all pretty similar under the skin, the new top looks an awful lot like the Nomad concept, just give it a new dashboard and fascia, and Bob's your uncle!
