Domino's mascot in the 80s until '89 when he was dropped because...

In the 1980's, Domino's Pizza was well known for advertisements featuring The Noid. Customers were implored to order from Domino's in order to "avoid the Noid." In 1989, the "Noid" campaign was promptly pulled off the air after a man, Kenneth Lamar Noid, who thought the ads were a personal attack on him, held two employees of an Atlanta, Georgia Domino's restaurant hostage for over five hours. After forcing them to make him a pizza, Noid surrendered to police. Noid was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, extortion and possession of a firearm during a crime. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Just thought that was hillarious.

That's hilarious. I remember those ads, but I never got why they stopped when they seemd so popular. I actually still have the "Yo Noid" video game for the original Nintendo system (before Super NES, N64, Gamecube, etc)

For a while Domino's also had "Bad Andy" (I think around 2000 or so), which I think tanked in less than a year.

i remember a poorly timed ad. remember the first "jack's back" commercial from jack in the box? it was rather long and had jack telling the story of how he was forced out of his company (complete with footage of his head being blown off a JITB sign at a restaurant) and how he was now taking it back. it ended with him at the "JITB HQ" building which he promptly razed by hitting a switch. it was brilliant. it was, and still is, one of the few ads that i liked well enough to start patronizing the business to reward them for making such an excellent/entertaining ad. turns out, the food wasnt bad. :) unfortunately, a couple weeks after i first saw it, the fed building in oklahoma city was destroyed and they pulled the ad. My sister's ex-boyfriend's brother worked for Dominos in the late 80's, he had to dress up in a Noid costume and stand by the side of the road.
