NASCAR Fan Demographics

Some bias comes from the belief that most NASCAR fans are rednecks because of the sport's Southern heritage; this stereotype is largely inaccurate. According to NASCAR, about 10% of NASCAR fans are African-American, which is a slightly smaller percentage of African-Americans than in the general population. This compares to the NFL, where African-American NFL fans represent about 11.7 percent of the total NFL base. The percentage of African-American NASCAR fans has grown by 86% since 1999. There have also been some attempts by NASCAR to bring in more African American fans into the seats, and drivers into the races. About 40% of fans are female and their numbers are rising. About 75% have attended college and more than 25% own their own homes. About 36% of NASCAR fans make more than $50,000 a year. Finally, NASCAR fans are evenly distributed across the country. For example, 20% of NASCAR fans live in the Northeast U.S.; this is in line with the general population--20% of the U.S. population lives in the Northeast. While the largest base of NASCAR fans live in the Southern U.S., only 38% of the NASCAR fans live in the South. Again, this is in line with the general population--35% of the population lives in the South.

I know... This was just to show Satty that his blabber about the demographics of NASCAR were just that, blabber... False blabber at that. I finally found the proof I've been looking for forever. :P So yes... NASCAR sucks and the cars are fake, but atleast Satty was proved wrong. My grandma will be thankful of that... she didn't like his false stereotyping.

Your grandma reads CG?

No... but that doesn't mean I didn't tell her... about it... ya know... :D

Well I know....I was just going to be impressed if you had your grandma reading CG. :D

Actually, redneck has very little to do with being Southern...it has to do with how the fans behave. I live in Indianapolis, and I know how racing fans behave. Just because one out of ten are black doesn't make any difference since 90% are still redneck! :P BTW--I love how they said "about 10%" are African-American because that means it is really anywhere between 9.5% and 9.9%

I want further demographic studies done, like average income, education level, etc. Like Croc said, being redneck has little to do with geography.

Well, Satty-the-unconvincable, you can go find one and post it. :D Until then, you can go by this:

No, it doesn't show what you want, but something like it. :P Plus, my point about posting this wasn't about being "redneck" or not, just the demographics since you seemed to really dish out the BS in the thread about NASCAR in "The Other Guy's". So...

NASCAR still sucks, live with it. I took my dog for a walk today. We made several left hand turns. It is cold outside. Turn left? Check. Slightly uncomfortable temperature? Check. Hey look, my dog and I are both NASCAR drivers.

I know... It does suck. If it were up to me... NASCAR would be about nearly stock RWDers, many more road courses, and so much less "sponsers for everything!". I was just making a point about demographics... Jeez... :D

If it were up to me, NASCAR would consist of every imaginable vehicle, from sports cars to pickups, Hyundai Elantras to Olds Silhouettes, all stock with modifications limited to keeping the existing powertrain as much as possible. Turbos, superchargers, but no 800hp carb'd V8 crap. Imagine Jeff Gordon's #24 Buick LeSabre neck-and-neck with Mark Martin and the Viagra Town Car with Dale Jr. in the #3 Intimidator Spectra hot on their rear...

Sure why not?

If NASCAR were to implement rules like Fly suggested, in order for manufacturers to be successful at NASCAR, they'd be "forced" into producing a saleable version of the car they put out on the racetrack. Imagine a minivan that could win a NASCAR race. That'd be worth buying.

No minivan is worth buying... the ability to win NASCAR races or not... :D
