Friday we got about 6 inches of snow here. I got a message on my phone. It was my mom.

"Billy! Don't be a cowboy! Don't be a cowboy going to work in your 4X4! Be careful! Don't be a cowboy!"

First off... how old am I?

Second... what is she trying to tell me? She's seen the previews for Brokeback Mountain? She consciously knows where I'm coming from?

It's all a big mystery....

Just for that get your truck stuck in one of those HUGE mountains of snow in the corner fo the mall parking lot... you know the ones the big CATEERPILAR bulldozer stacks up. The call her on the cell phone and tell her how you got 20 feet up the side of it before the rear axle sunk into the snow so deep your bed is not visible form the cab anymore. When she starts to yell and cuss tell her: "Well I was going to take a horse into work and russle up some cattle but I decided to take your advice and act NOTHING like a cowboy. This is what I call Punk 17-year old with 4x4" I'm sure laughter will ensue.

When I was a 17 year old punk kid, my beloved grandfather bought for me a brand new 1981 Grand Prix. The 110 horse 3.8 was a powerhouse, and the CCC (Computer Command Control, inaugural year) was very finely tuned. Wait, that last sentence was a lie. It ran like crap. It had a severe dieseling problem. The engine shut off on hard braking. I got beat in a race by my uncle in a loaner '81 (Fairmont) LTD wagon with a 200 cid inline six... blah...

The point of this longwinded story is... I used to attempt to drive up on those huge piles of snow at the mall in my Grand Prix... cheesy little General whitewalls spinning their little hearts out. I was so easily entertained then.

Now I want an Emerald Green G6 GTP coupe with black cloth, value package, and a 6 speed.

Anyhoo... if mom has an inkling that I have a crush on Jake Gyoiotwlllenhal, she'd be correct, Alex. I cannot wait to see Heath and Jake pitch their tent.

The G6 coupe looks hot. I like it far more than the sedan simply due to the far superior exterior styling. I always liked the fastback look of 70s-era cars, and I like the fastback look today :)

Missed it, Chris.

Yup, the coupe is sexy, and the dealer group I work for has a Pontiac franchise elsewhere in the state, so I could get the employee discount. I'd have to have the Ultrabright 18" rims and the 6 speed, so it would have to be a GTP.

Motor Trend's comment about cross shopping a Mustang GT (another hot car, for sure) for the same price doesn't hold water... because $27k is for a loaded G6 GTP (which I don't need), and the V8 Mustang is base priced at $28k.

What Sixty8 is trying to say is that you'd be far safer traveling to work in a front-wheel drive car.

Your'e right. Stupid people are better off in FWD cars... then when they understeer into a guardrail a RWD Wrecker towes them away & they convince themselves how AWD or 4x4 would have helped them stop better and they MUST buy a vehicle with this feature as they need to get around in the winter.

Meantine I drive through sevearl inches of snow with RWD cars like '84 Datuns, '83 Firebirds, '86/'87 Fleetwood Broughams, '87 Cougars etc...

Yeah, driving thru snow in rear drivers isn't all that horrible. I had done it in my Camaro when I had it, even though I prefer doing so in the fwd's(just personal preference). Maybe it has to do with trying to get my third gen up in the driveway when there was a thick sheet of ice on my road. That was fun.

My FWD Grand Am must be broken... I do not experience any of what you say. :P Just mild knocking and ticking noises... :D

What IS going ton with the GA? Are you still selling it then... (I noticed the sig natraully) does it run at all?
Posted
Yeah... I'm selling it, but have only advertised it on here so far. I just put for sale signs on the windows and plan to put an ad in the Trade book soon. It does run, yes. It just has that knocking which causes a loss of power (Hills kill it). The knocking comes in around 2k rpm and gets stronger as the rpms rise. You can really feel it when you push the clutch when shifting to a higher gear (at the corresponding rpms, obviously). I'm still unsure about the overheating problem, though. It's getting alot better, but seems to have mood swings. :P
