My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years.

I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now.

I love her and I miss her, always.

Aww ocn, I'm sorry man. I completely understand how you feel. I had a dog that we got around 1990 that passed away in '98, January 22nd, the day after my birthday. Oh Brittany was my companion and I loved her dearly. And I watched them give her the needle after we found out she had kidney failure. I saw her last breath. And I'll never forget it. :( Edited by NOS2006

ocn, I'm so sorry man. Pets bring so much joy into your life, giving you unconditional love no matter what. My sister's friend had a really cool bumper sticker that pretty much said "My goal in life is to be the person my dog thinks I am." When they go, it's like losing a close family member. Take care of yourself, Meggie gave you fiften years of memories...hold onto them. If you want to talk, you know where I am.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.  I appreciate you all.  It's awful quiet here tonight.

Ocn, you have my condolences. I have two great little Lhasa Apso's at home and hate to think of the day the unthinkable happens (they're five and two years old).

The poodle I had growing up died in June of 1998 - he lived for 17 years. I was heart broken, as he was the only dog I ever had for that long, and I wasn't home when it happened (Dad had everything taken care of before I got home - nothing was left). I went from June of '98 to March of '00 without owning another dog (I was 23 y-o and living with my parents at the time of his death and they said "no more dogs"). My wife and I got our own place in Sept. of '99 and decided after the holidays that we were going to get a dog. It was the best thing for my aching heart (for almost two years I was still heartbroken about the loss of my childhood dog).

The point? Even though you can never replace the pet you lost, having another will definitely add joy back to your life. I know how you feel right now and maybe it's not the time for a new addition, but keep that in mind. I love the fact that my two little dogs get excited every time I come into the house (even if it was just going out to get the newspaper from the driveway!). The wife told me once that I love the dogs more than her - I said do you ever get this excited when I walk in the door?!?!?!

Time will heal your aches, but a new dog will only help it heal faster. I'm here for you if you need someone ([email protected]).

Thanks again for all the kind words, folks. Y'all are such a great group. It's much too quiet here tonight, I can't help but look and listen for her. She's gone from my home, but will remain in my heart.
