I decided to have a little fun today with that IT guy who calls me Dave even though he knows I hate it. Most of this occured via email, I meant to forward them to my Gmail so I could copy/paste, but got sidetracked.

Me: I accidentally my printer

Him: Whats your printer doing?

Me: I accidentally my whole printer. Is that bad?

Him: Tell me what its doing.

Me: Can you un-do it?

Me: Please, I need to print something, but I accidentally my printer.

(Nothing for about 10 minutes)

Him: You're not even logged in.

Me: OH NO! I accidentally the entire network!

Him: Or at your desk

Him: Is there actually a problem with your printer?

*Edit: All the above occurred via email, after that I called him and things got boring.

I wouldn't call him hot, but I wouldn't call him fugly. I'm just glad I wont have to deal with him after next week.

so we could settle on "doable" then?

That reminds me of a conversation a few years ago. My friend and I were discussing this girl we both knew. We agreed she wasn't hot, but given the opportunity, both of us would be willing to sleep with her, yet "hittable" seemed too strong a word. We settled on a level below hittable called one-night-standable. Hit it, but not more than once and dont giver her a real name.

Obviously not a true IT guy if he is not up on him memespeak

Agreed. He should be fired for this. If he doesn't know memes, he doesn't know internets.

Well, I am over 30, so I'm not hip with what the latest all the kiddies are talking about, esp. anything related to games.. :)

The internet is a series of tubes, not a big truck.

Speaking of memes, this time last year I was working at a startup in Scottsdale with a team of 20-somethings, all Mac and Toyota fan boys (Priuses, an FJ Cruiser, Matrix, a couple Camrys, etc) and they drove me nuts by constantly using the meme 'That's what she said' in conversation. Funny once or twice, but 50 times a day? AUGGGGGHHHH. And constantly refererencing web cartoons 'Penny Arcade', 'XKCD', and 'Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal'.

Talk about a generation gap...was glad to get out of there and back into big corporate environments that are more professional.

Never read user friendly, but Dilbert, with a few exceptions, is exceeding boring to me.

Dilbert has it's ups and downs. But so often over the last 15 years or years or so, it's been a slightly exaggerated view of life in corporate America. It's been too real for me at times in cubeland.

Speaking of IT guys named Dave, at the company I was at almost 5 years, our CM (configuration management) guy was named Dave...everyone liked him, etc. At some point, he decided to leave the company. The new guy that took his place was also named Dave, but had a gruff personality, not as much fun as Old Dave. So everyone on my team took to calling him New Dave. We'd go out for Thai, ask him, he said he didn't like Thai, and we'd say 'Old Dave liked Thai. We liked Old Dave'. Etc...hilarity ensued. A year or so later he left the company. He replacement was a Mike, so he immediately became known as 'Not Dave'.

XKCD is Amazing!! as well as Dilbert

I would be mad in a professional environment because at work I tend to be serious if I'm being contacted for help. But I guess that's why I'm called the crotchety old man.

I've come to like XKCD.. esp. the math angle. I think I'm at the point in my life where I'm not interested in being in a startup environment w/ 20 somethings that work all the time, are underpaid, and seem to live to work, not the other way around. I went through that phase earlier in my career and burnt myself out on it.

Now I prefer being a contractor/consultant and work a straight 40 hours at a good bill rate, and get paid overtime if I have to work overtime once in a while.

Penny Arcade is not funny, and anyone who thinks it is should be told otherwise.

Friend of mine from high school loved it. I could never figure out why. As far as video game parody comics go, I was more into VGCats, but the combination of me not being very up to date on the latest games, the author rarely updating, and his material/art style have gone downhill has led me to not really go there.

For web comics, I really enjoy Exterminatus Now, its the only one I follow regularly.
