Hello, my name is Drew and I am a long-time gearhead. I grew up in a mainly GM household, though my wife and I have been driving Chrysler products over the past couple of decades (more about that in a later post, perhaps--but suffice it to say, they do make a mighty good minivan). I'm still a fan of GM vehicles, both old and new. Heck, I'm a fan of almost all of the domestic cars when it comes down to it! Right now, we're looking at either a Cobalt or Malibu as a possible new car purchase early next year. For many years, I've been a member of the "Allpar" forum that serves as a discussion site for Chrysler products. I'm happy to find a similar forum for discussion of GM products! I wanted to post this intro so youse guys didn't think I'm some kind of troll, in spite of my forum name... :) On edit: I should add that I have a huge collection of GM (and other brands) sales literature stretching back into the 1930s, along with a bunch of promo models from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s; again all makes. I really am an incurable gearhead Edited by NeonLX

Welcome Drew. I hope you enjoy your stay at C&G. Glad to hear you're looking at a Cobalt. I own a blue 2005 LS coupe and I have nothing but good things to report. If you need any specific info about Cobalts, I'd be more than happy to share.

Welcome Drew...I'm just as big of a Ford fan as I am a GM fan, so no worry. We even have some Toyota, Honda, and Nissan enthusiasts. We're a friendly, diverse community here...hope you enjoy your stay!

Welcome, welcome Drew! I see we've already roasted you. :P Good to have another avid car enthusiast on board. One thing about us: if you like cars, you'll have fun here. Look forward to your postings! Enjoy!

Welcome! I definitely agree with Fly.. anybody who loves cars, especially GM, will love it here... I have a few friends with Neons.. Actually, about everybody I work with owns a Neon lol. There are at least four of them. Ahh who cares. It gets ya from point A to point B, right?

Welcome, Drew... There are many well-rounded car enthusiasts here who are fans of more than just GM, like yourself. Including me, the almighty Black Viper. :P ...I happen to be a huge Pontiac fanatic as well as a Honda fan. Generally, I like imports but it's only because the vehicles themselves--not anything quality related or some beef. Basically, as long as its a small coupe with a manual transmission that looks good... I'll like it regardless of the manufacturer. BTW, an aunt of mine has a Neon. Meh... not a bad car but not necessarily a good one either. It seems to have a problem with fading bumpers. I think its an 01 or an 02, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the welcome messages! Yeah, Neons don't get a lot of respect. I have to admit that I wasn't too keen on them until I drove a 2000 model (first year of the 2nd generation). From my perspective, these 2nd generation Neons had great handling, decent zip and a reasonably comfortable interior. They are also dirt cheap as used cars, hence my '04 Neon that I bought with 16K miles on the odometer last February. So far, I'm pretty happy with it--especially considering what I paid for it. Back in June, we spent two weeks in Alaska. Our rental car was a brand new Cobalt LS sedan. I was hugely impressed with the quality of the thing, not to mention the ride, handling, interior appointments and even engine performance. My wife, who normally doesn't like small cars, actually is thinking about trading "her" Caravan for a Cobalt sedan. She liked it that much. We're also going to look at a Malibu, Malibu Maxx and a Pontiac Vibe. I've driven the Malibu sedan already and liked it a lot--the 3.5L V6 provides oodles of punch while still giving great fuel economy. From memory, I think the Malibu V6 is rated at 23/32 MPG, while the Cobalt 2.2L (auto trans) comes in at 24/32 MPG--only one MPG difference! On edit: phooey, I tried attaching a pic of my Neon to this message but it doesn't work...oh well, you already know what Neons look like... Edited by NeonLX

Welcome Neon. :) I'm a GM fanatic with a survivor 1968 Camaro that will be finding a new home so it can get restored while I'll be looking for one of two vehicles: '59 Buick or a '61/'62 Cadillac. Show us some photos of your former rides... esp. that '72 98 Regency and '56 210. I love hardtops.

Soon as I figure out how to post pix to the forum... I love 1959 Buicks. Especially those L O N G Electra 225 models. I also like the '59 Olds and Pontiac, though the Caddy was a little too extreme for me that year. I wouldn't mind a '59 Chevy Biscayne like my buddy's former car--his had a hi-po 348 V8 and a three-on-the-tree stick shift. '61-'62 Cadillacs are another favorite for me. A friend of mine had a '62 Coupe DeVille and it had power vent windows! The height of luxury, eh? :) My '72 Regency was something else. It was a very rare car--a limited production model to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Oldsmobile. I'm not sure how many they actually made but it was less than 5000. It had a clock in the dash designed by Tiffany's and a sterling silver key ring with a special jewel-like key head. It also had all the luxury features standard, like 60/40 power seats, power windows, tilt-wheel, etc. I bought it second hand and like an idiot, I sold it a few years later back when the gas prices started to rise in the late 1970s. Wish I had it now.

The Caravan/Town & Country doesn't necessarily excel in any one area, but it does a whole lot of stuff very well. The one big achilles heel of these vehicles, the dreadful A604/41TE tranny, has been improved greatly over the years. Sure, there are vans on the market that can accelerate better or hold a higher resale value, but when taken as an entire package, the DC minis are still mighty good vehicles.

I don't think they have a limit of uploads, only a limit to size. Good site though.

[post="53214"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]

Oh yes, they have a limit on uploads... but lets just say it's more than a few. I had my account wiht them for less than a year and I've already maxed it out. :P

But then again look at all the dumb stuff I post just for shits & giggles.

Neon: that '52 is awsome... Never driven one of those old 216s. I hear they're quite adequate... for 1931. But then again the 4.11s must have helped acceleration. :AH-HA_wink:

it doesnt so much as limit your uploads as it does shrink em down and make em the size of thumbnails after a while.........i have to delete a lot and reload it all cuz i maxed out about 6 months ago anythiing you see posted from me is preshrunk before wearing----like jeans

The old 216 wasn't a drag racing engine but it did have good low-end grunt. You could take off from a dead stop in 3rd gear with not much clutch-slipping. Of course, the 4.11 gears helped here :) Hey, lookit here--I got an image to post in my sig line!

Phooey, there goes a double-post. Sorry; I got a message saying things had timed out while trying to post. Edited by NeonLX

Cool! BTW, here's my other current ride, though my wife drives this one about 95% of the time:
