I love Eldorados and always will. I hope one day, Cadillac will bring back an excessive luxurious coupe, all soft and floaty, as only the Americans can do it. Vanity, thy name is Eldo.

Overall, I love the Eldo. Favs would have to be (no particular order) '56, '57, '57-58 Brougham, '60, '67... and even when I can narrow it down to a handful like above, I stumble across another unsolicited gem that still makes me all gooshy inside. Was looking over a '66 Biarritz last month- sweet car. Also like the last of the boats :'77-78 and the 'new guard' '79s too. Last gen had real sweet curb appeal, too. I don't think there's been a model line that speaks to me so bewitchingly over it's lifespan than the Big E. EDIT: Damn HE- that pic of the '56 finally loaded after I posted. The 1957 Eldo was so decadant, it even had a perfume dispenser for the ladies and it cost more than a new Rolls Royce.

A few years ago while driving, up ahead maybe an eigth mile at a major intersection, a '57-58 Brougham glided thru the crossstreet to me. It was like a shining vision; everything around that intersection dulled and became fuzzy. I wish I had been closer, but at the same time it was hardly necessary. These cars had such presence!

Every single one is gorgeous in its own way, but as wiht anything I have my favorites... they keeep chaning wiht my mood but right now the only one sweeter than that '53 is the Razor Back. (67)

The red job above is a '63. Danged similar... but the taillight bezels are 'boomerang-shaped' in profile for '64 while the '63s are dead vertical as above. Fins are also higher for '63 and the '64 has unskirted rear wheels.

Only a select few cars today have presance that even comes close to a 50s & 60s GM Chevy never mind a Cadillac. The CTS-V, Corvette C6 Z06, POntiac Solstice, Infiniti FX & M series, Chysler 300 are a few that come close but still pale in comparison..

Hey thanks for the correction...the source had it as a '64 and I knew the '64 had more open rear wheel wells...but it slipped by. Here's the '64. I edited the aforementioned.

Absolutely beautiful. A standout even today...

...especially the custom convertibles...


Really, stack the headlamps and put LEDs in the taillamps and chisel the body up a bit, and you have a car whose design could fit perfectly with the Art & Science theme, even if the basic look dates back to 1992.

Timeless.

I gasp at the stunning lines of this car. 1967 was a significant change for Eldorado. It was the first Cadillac to have fwd and hidden headlights as well.

Harley, I need to jog your memory. What about the '56 or '57 Eldorado Birritz, with the brushed stainless steel roof? Several years ago, Hot Rod magazine did a feature on Caddie Eldo hot rods that were owned by several staff members. A pic was featured on the cover, and mention was made that these cars had features that were factory, that were only available for a short time. Does anybody remember the article and the details about the cars? What year & models they were showing? I had that issue and lost in the move South (damn!) :angry:

Harley- I hope you have had the opportunity to walk around a '67-70 E in person. The detail & inspiration is more than enough to solicit peals of laughter when in comparison, a mercedes or bmw is considered...

Yes, it's pea soup green like 45% of all GM vehicles made from 1959-to-1977, and yes it's FWD... but this car needs no apologies or excuses. An absolute marvel when it comes to styling. If this car was any better looking it would be illegal to gaze upon its sheetmetal.

Hey HarleyEarl, is that a '59 Eldo Brougham in your "sig picture"? I like how that model predicted some of the 1960 styling, and the roofline & windshield design of the *1961* Caddies... I've always loved the GM specialty cars like the '63-'65 Riv, '66-'70 Toronado and the '67-'70 Eldorados. I really liked the '71-'73 Rivieras (I just saw a '72 for sale about 80 miles from here).

Harley: Thy made like 15K in 1967 IIRC but I know 1968 they made like 24,000+ so it's pretty hard to find car for a reason. Not like 1968 Camaros that they made like ten times that much.

For 1971 Cadillac Eldorado was entirely different than the previous generation. It was almost retro...harkened back to earlier Cadillacs. I like it, but not as much as the one it replaced.

Keep 'em coming, Harley! So far I have agreed pretty much unilaterally with your opinions on the Big E. I never really noticed the '71s harkening to the early '50s in a few details, but it is there. I used to pass a commuting '70 last summer- a bit worn but still an imposing beauty. I have the half-handful of collector vehicles I really want, but on my short list of others I'd like to get one day is a '67-70 Eldorado.
