GM Reports 281,288 Deliveries in November



Chevrolet Impala, Pontiac G6 and Buick LaCrosse Pace Strengthening Mid-Size Car Sales
Led by New H3, HUMMER Ranks as Fastest-Growing Brand in U.S.
Pontiac and Saturn Post Double-Digit Sales Gains

DETROIT - General Motors dealers in the United States sold 281,288 new cars and trucks in November, down 11 percent from the same month a year ago. Car sales were down 3 percent and truck sales were off 16 percent. Total sales were up 14 percent compared to October levels.

"November was stronger than October for GM and the industry, but certainly not a barn burner," said Mark LaNeve, vice president, GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "We saw improvement throughout the month and look forward to finishing the year with continued sales momentum."

LaNeve went on to point out the positive impact of new products, like the Chevrolet Impala and HHR, Pontiac G6 and Buick LaCrosse. "In our business, the bottom line is great product," he added. "Our new vehicles are hitting home, which gives us confidence as we get ready to introduce 19 new products in 2006, many of them in key, high-volume segments."

The revitalized GM mid-size car lineup has been gaining sales momentum in recent months, with November deliveries up 9 percent. Sales of the most recent addition to the category, the Chevrolet Impala, were up 14 percent, posting a new November sales record. Dealer orders have been brisk, exceeding original expectations.

Pontiac G6 in November achieved its best-ever sales month, with more than 14,000 deliveries and a 56 percent improvement over October sales. Pontiac sales were up 11 percent in November.

For the 11th time in the last 12 months, the Buick LaCrosse outsold year-ago combined Century and Regal sales on a retail basis. Buick's all-new luxury sedan, Lucerne, is arriving in dealerships around the country and posted 2,724 deliveries in November.

Small sport utility vehicle sales in November were up 35 percent, led by the new Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Vue. Torrent sales have improved each month since its August launch, with November sales 26 percent greater than October. Despite constrained inventories, HHR had its second-best sales month since launch, with deliveries up 9 percent over October. An 18 percent sales increase for the new Saturn Vue also contributed to the solid sales results in the small utility category. Saturn sales in November were up 12 percent.

H3, the new mid-size HUMMER, continues to drive record sales for the division and positions HUMMER as the fastest-growing brand in the industry for the calendar year-to-date. HUMMER sales in November were up 114 percent and for the calendar year are up 90.5 percent.

Certified Used Vehicles

November sales for all certified GM brands, including GM Certified Used Vehicles, Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Used Cars from Saturn and Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, were 42,455 units, down 8.5 percent. Total year-to-date certified GM sales are 488,007 units, comparable to the same period last year.

GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top-selling manufacturer-certified used brand, posted sales of 37,114 units, down 7.5 percent. Year-to-date sales for GM Certified Used Vehicles are 416,648 units, up 2 percent from the same period in 2004.

Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles posted November sales of 3,060 units, up nearly 1 percent. Cadillac Certified year-to-date sales are up 7 percent. Used Cars from Saturn sold 1,790 units, down 33 percent. Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles sold 491 units, down nearly 15 percent.

"GM Certified Used Vehicles, the top-selling certified brand, continues to lead all manufacturers in the category," LaNeve said. "Year-to-date sales are up 2 percent putting us on track to break the industry sales record we established last year. Looking to December, we're confident that GM Certified will finish the year strong and continue to set the pace for the certified segment."

GM North America Reports November 2005 Production Results, 2005 Fourth-Quarter Production Forecast and 2006 First-Quarter Production Forecast

In November, GM North America produced 431,000 vehicles (169,000 cars and 262,000 trucks). Production totals include joint venture production of 30,000 vehicles in November 2005 and 22,000 vehicles in November 2004.

The region's 2005 fourth-quarter production forecast is revised at 1.28 million vehicles (483,000 cars and 797,000 trucks). In the fourth quarter of 2004, the region produced 1.277 million vehicles (466,000 cars and 811,000 trucks). Additionally, the region's initial 2006 first-quarter production forecast is set at 1.25 million vehicles (505,000 cars and 745,000 trucks), up 6 percent from the first quarter of 2005. In the first quarter of 2005, the region produced 1.183 million vehicles (470,000 cars and 713,000 trucks).

GM also announced revised 2005 fourth-quarter and initial 2006 first-quarter production forecasts for its international regions.

GM Europe - GM Europe's revised 2005 fourth-quarter production forecast is 443,000 vehicles, down 6,000 units from last month's guidance. In the fourth quarter of 2004, GM Europe built 442,000 vehicles. GM Europe's initial 2006 first-quarter production estimate is 525,000 vehicles. In the first quarter of 2005, the region built 502,000 vehicles.

GM Asia Pacific - GM Asia Pacific's revised 2005 fourth-quarter production forecast is 447,000 vehicles, up 1,000 units from last month's guidance. In the fourth quarter of 2004, the region built 386,000 vehicles. GM Asia Pacific's initial 2006 first-quarter production estimate is 437,000 vehicles. In the first quarter of 2005, the region built 335,000 vehicles.

GM Latin America, Africa and the Middle East - The region's 2005 fourth-quarter production estimate remains at 190,000 vehicles. In the fourth quarter of 2004, the region built 200,000 vehicles. The region's initial 2006 first-quarter production estimate is 197,000 vehicles. In the first quarter of 2005, the region built 185,000 vehicles.

The entire Oldsmobile division is down 93.2% for the year. The G6 was up huge (I'd love to see a comparison of G6 sales in its first year on the market compared to the Grand Am when it was last redesigned) and the Grand Prix did ok, the GTO dropped and the Vibe really fell off. Overall not a bad month for Poncho. Cadillac trucks all fell and fell big. The Escalade I understand, the new one debuted towards the begining of the month, but why are SRX sales slow? H2 sales are dropping, thank god those things are stupid.

wow i didnt realize they only sell a couple dozen H1's a month... Is the millitary still buying Humvees?

but another thing is the H2 part of the GMT900?

will it be redesigned? Cause as sales sag it shows it needs a new design...

Impala is selling well, so it's looking like the speculation that it will switch to a large RWD car in 2008 won't happen.

Still doesn't mean anyting. More likely any RWD Chevy sedan will get a different name [Caprice or Chevelle?]. And Impala will eventually get a 'better' FWD platform, [with maybe AWD optional?]. Some forget that even though the Chrysler 300 is hot, sales of FWD mid sized cars are still rolling along, and outnumber RWD by far. Most car buyers are NOT car nuts or drag racers demanding RWD with sold axles for a day at the tracks. Edited by Chicagoland

Some forget that even though the Chrysler 300 is hot, sales of FWD mid sized cars are still rolling along, and outnumber RWD by far. Most car buyers are NOT car nuts or drag racers demanding RWD with sold axles for a day at the tracks.

Yeah and the fleet sales of the impala would take a hit i think if it was just RWD, just for the sake of fuel economy. I think a FWD Impala and a RWD Caprice or something would be a great combo

Even though these past few months haven't been... spectacular, they are giving me hope about Pontiac. It was the second bestselling brand this month. *ahem* Second. :D The G6 is doing good, even though its behind the Grand Prix so far this year. Something that never happened with the Grand Am, I might add. It's still behind the Grand Am in it's last full year too so far. I guess Grand Am coupe sales probably could be added to the G6's total, though... The rest of Pontiac isn't looking too good for this month. Maybe next month... :P

I find it interesting, i was looking at Silverado sales... november to november... Silverado-C/K Pickup 37,633 39,982 -9.6 hrmm... someone else do the math for me... but thats not 9.6 percent drop okay... thats 9.6 percent... why dont they just advertise that only a 6% drop so it seems like a better month? 37,633 for 25 days... thats 1505.32 a day 39,982 for 24 days... thats 1665.91 a day -9.6

I think the H2 fell because people realized they can get the same style, a better looking interior, and better fuel economy in the H3 for a much cheaper price. Despite being down 11% overall for the month, there were A LOT of bright spots: - Lucerne sales were pretty good for the first month, plus it didn't have any Red Tag pricing - The Deville and Impala also appear to be off to a good start early on (something that has haunted GM in the past) - It would appear the coupe and GTP models are really helping the G6 (may the 4 cyl is helping some too). Too bad it didn't have the full lineup at launch. - The HHR is still doing well even though the deals with the Red Tag aren't great. - The Torrent still isn't up to full speed yet and outsold the Aztek 2 to 1 vs. the Aztek's selling rate last Nov. - The reskinned VUE appears to be doing well. Overall, some good things and some bad things. The main problems that need to be addressed are going to be addressed soon (GMT900s and Lambdas should pick up the sales the GMT360s are losing). -

But how many of them were to fleets? I'm guessing a lot of rental companies are looking to replace their old Devilles and TCs with the new DTS.

Yes, all Cadillacs have some fleet sales, but the Deville/DTS has a much higher percentage of sales to fleets. Through the first 6 months of the year, 32.7% of Deville sales went to fleets, while only 6.1% of STS sales went to fleets.
