I swear, we have the worst luck with bottom feeders. We've been through 3 so far this year. I'm not sure what the issue is. Tested the water, everything was good. It was treated with medication shortly after we got our last Pleco. Temperature is in the right range, salt levels are good. This one turned up dead yesterday.

I'd never seen the other fish pick on/at it, and it showed no signs of being attacked when I found it...although by teh time I got it out of teh water they had picked at it...

Meanwhile, the two Silver Tips "Sharks" are happy as can be.

Weird.

What kind of filter system, and what size tank? I had a lot better luck when I switched to 75 gallon tanks, water quality stayed much more stable.

I used to keep small pleco type fish...there are lots of interesting small catfish from South America.

Sadly, the aquarium shop near me that always had interesting fish went the way of the dodo bird.

How well does your filter work? My dad found out that if the tank is kept TOO clean, plecos (algae-eaters as I grew up calling them) often starve.

My mom has one of those little guys in her tank, along with a fatass goldfish that's like 10 years old and a fatass black fish with dangly fins on it. She feeds them algae tablets. She keeps her tank pretty clean, as far as I can tell.

The filter keeps the water clean, but there is still algae that grows and stuff on the bottom for them to it.

We do have a bit of an issue with algae tablets, as the sharks will suck them up before the reach the rocks.

I dunno, I now a few days ago he was swimming upside down along the surface. That was a flag, but as I watched him, he wasn't floating or struggling or anything, just swimming around. Then would then just go back t o sucking on the glass. Last time I saw a fish upside down it was really "out of it" before it died. This was different.
