Dear 2006,

I really enjoyed the Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel that the Chrysler Corporation let me borrow for a few months. It pulled around a big jeep and a bubble and I went all over America in it. I liked my butt being tosty in the heated seats, and the nav that got us lost (sometimes asking me to make U-turns with a huge trailer) and the Sirius Radio with Howard and Bubba.

I wish it was still 2006 sometimes.

A friend of mine bought one of these.

I drove it and was somewhat unimpressed. The truck is exceptionally loud, not just with diesel clatter, but also with exhaust noise. The other complaint I had immediately was the manual trans - it's one hard-shifting unit.

Overall, it lacked just about all of the engineering finesse of a Duramax-equipped Silverado.

Made me feel even better about buying the Chevy instead.

As for durability, I'm sure this big Dodge has plenty of that.

Trust me, you don't want that manual.

 I love these trucks. The Cummins is a real hauler and for brute force you just can't beat them. I have a buddy that owns one of these, Cummins, 6-speed. He loves it. Does all the pulling and hauling that he throws at it and asks for more.

Thanks for sharing!

Buddy had one of these, and traded it because it was too hard on fuel. Guy down the road from me has a red one, has 30,000 miles on it and it threw the rod out the block and Dodge won't cover it. Two brothers I know own a monument business (Foster Monuments) bought one had nothing, but trouble with it and Dodge won't do anything about it. Guy my dad hauls loads for has an older one from around the late 90's all he does is replace things on it every week (probably mainly because he has it suped up). Dad had a Kenworth T-600 with a Cummins in it and that was the biggest heaping pile of a motor Ive ever seen in my life! lol Real nice trucks, but if it had a Cummins in it I would be scared to buy one. I wish CAT would put there motor in a truck, that would be a truck I would consider.

THAT bad Camino?

Well when GM wants to they make a fine manual trans.

Maybe someday I'll have SBC power in my Benz, shifted through an

M22 or T10. Four on the floor FTW.

That is an impressive cabinet for the Nav.

Is the brandy stored there too? Roomy cab.

That transmission was not good for towing. 1st was useless, but you still couldn't start in 2nd. The manual ran at like 2300 at highway speeds and I had to have a 200 gallon external tank because my fuel mileage was so bad. Also, we were running at 26,000 gcvwr. Dodge only tells consumers with the manual at that time to do 21,000. But, we asked and they said it was fine. Something about licensing or gov. regs.

I didn't mind the noise from the truck. I could always turn up the music.

Edit: Also, the trans started to leak at the end, but Dodge corporate told us to drive it till it broke cause it would take a week over our contract time to fix the thing. Who knows if they ever fixed it.
