Parker attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but a handling problem with the Explorer caused it to turn sideways, which triggered the rollover, Kaster said.

Yeah... a driver that's asleep would have been steering the Explorer perfectly. It must have been a handling problem.

Good lord, what would they do if he fell asleep driving a motorcycle? An Explorer is not a car, nor does it handle like a car. Edited by Cremazie

Hell, you can roll a Corvette if you try hard enough. North America is gripped with victim insanity and our stupid liablilty laws (plus lawyers too eager to lend a hand) only make it worse. Just like all the states that won't lease cars because the leasing company becomes liable in a lawsuit. Stupid, just stupid.

If this case is as simple as you guys are making it out to be, then why is Ford settling this? I mean, I think I am inclined to agree that someone who falls asleep is to blame for getting himself and his friend killed, but there must be something more complex about the reality of this situation that you haven't taken into account. Surely, nobody would be less motivated to pay this than Ford. -E.S. Mail

Ford didn't settle. They fought and (wrongly) lost. They jury ordered them to pay.

Im sure theres many lawsuits going on here. I hate law suits myself but with that said SUV's are crap. Anybody that can't come to grips with the inherent problems of short wheel base & huge tires combined with high center of gravity wasnt paying attention to Jeep CJ fiasco, or were ignorant to think it went away with the Jeep. But then again hasnt there been much publicity about the problems with SUV's ? Its so amusing how we are now raising the center of gravity on cars to ease the visibility problem on the roadways created by the vast amount of these billboards with wheels on the road.

No, but if you were driving a Mercedes S-Class you might have a case  But if it happens in a steel tunnel it's your own fault because steel "confuses" the system... Edited by Croc
