FOG,

I'm surprised (or maybe not) to find you think it lacks substance, since the plots run far deeper, more interesting, and complex than anything you will find produced here.

Simple...

I watch animation for escapism, not plots and story lines. Therefore, anime is not my cup-o-tea.

Just watched 6 minutes of FMA (referenced on Pg 1)- nice storyboarding, decent backgrounds, but I still find the characters unrealistic (and clearly crossing into overt comedic at times), with marginal illustration WRT realism & detail, and the animation per say lacking (they weren't overly action-related scenes for the most part). For a piece portraying quality in anime, I don't expect to see the 'one sweat drop' gimmick.

If we want a 100% serious amine to watch there's ones like Ghost in the Shell. If you want one that's serious, dark, and insane, there's Evangelion.

FMA gets more serious and darker as the story progresses.

It don't really watch anime much anymore, but FMA is my favorite series.

Funny you mention it since it turns turns out that there's a new series which follows the original story much more closely. First anime I've watched in a long time.
