I'm not a GM basher at all. In fact I think their new slate of vehicles are a huge leap in quality and the Z06 is by far the fastest car I've ever driven. However, you have to love this item from my site. i was just surfing the GM press site for new stories and came across it. Hilarious. In a sad way.

Interesting Buick came out with the Lucerne 10 years ago! wow how time flies when you're selling such an amazing car....that in 10 years it hasn't needed one refresh! :P That Vette story was great though:)

You would think that GM would send all their press info past like 10 proof readers before they send it out. But then again its only the press. As long as they get it right for the general public then....... I guess it doesn't matter. As for the Z06..........awesome read. The Gen-1 Z-28 had to be the funniest part. PS. and THIS guy has the nerve to be talking about typos

Are we sure that's not the NUMBER of Lucernes ready to ship?

e.g....."the first 1,996 of them have been built and are ready to be shipped to dealers....?"

It has now been fixed on the GM site "The first 2006 Buick Lucerne sedans await delivery to dealerships from the General Motors Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Hamtramck, Michigan Thursday, November 3, 2005. The launch of the new Buick Lucerne was expedited by nearly 50 Detroit-area Buick dealers who climbed in and drove the vehicles to their own dealerships. The Detroit area is Buick's largest market and nationally dealers have been ordering Buick's new luxury sedan in record numbers. (General Motors/Tom Pidgeon)." But that sounds like a logical explanation of confusing the numbers though.

I'd say it was a PR blunder. Not trying to bad mouth the company but to come back and fix it so quickly, I can certainly see them inserting the incorrect information.

This sounds eerily familiar... Oh yeah, when Buick sent me that big @$$ poster of tiger woods with the Lucerne taking a decidedly "back seat" position; smaller and to the side. In a fancy letter, they proclaimed the Lucerne would be coming out in the winter of 2007 (2 years from then). They then sent a followup letter saying it would be 2006, not 2007. I wonder how much it cost to send all those correction letters for a car that wouldn't even be available for years down the line... (It's the attention to detail that puts people behind the wheels of Lexuses, to whom the Lucerne strives to appeal. Let's start by getting the mere dates right, okay? LOL! ) GM, hello, I'm available for proof-reading! As for being a potential customer of Buick, (I was a big fan of Buick some years ago) I have a simple request. Build a car (Riviera?) that would be comparable/better than my current Mark VIII. That means coupe, RWD, big, comfortable, stylish and with a powerful V8. I'm waiting.

Well, in all honesty, considering how lame most GM vehicles, Buicks included, have been in the past 10 years, the Lucerne is probably about the caliber of car they should have had in 1996, and should be much farther ahead today. There's NOTHING it has that weren't readily available back then: the large FWD G-platform, the 3.8L, the Northstar, etc., etc. I know it was just a typo, but it made me think. Great to hear the sprayed Trans Am beat both the Stang and Z06. Maybe it's time to add nitrous to my TA! Still I love the Z06 but it just proves there is always someone faster out there.
