I thought these threads were to be stopped by the admins after the election. Although it is fun to fight over these things, it does get monotonous. I'm going somewhere to read about SEMA.

You're right, it's devolved and I haven't helped.

Enjoy SEMA...

One downside I see to Obama being elected is that there won't be any more hilarious SNL skits for at least the next 4 years. I really do hope Palin runs in 2012, because it will give me something to look forward to.

In some cases we were greated as liberators it depends on whom you ask. I for one have always been proud of my country. I am just disapointed in them today.

Likewise, I would be very dissapointed in Americans today had McCain won.

I don't really want to get into politics but I feel I must point something about this idea of "robbing the rich"

CBS posted poll results taken of people who make over $200,000 annually and asked if they were in favor of Obama's tax increases.

The majority said yes.

I would like to emphasize this point again. A CNN poll had the same results last night.

The middle class is the heart and soul of this country, and if we suffer, everyone suffers. Companies don't make money if consumers aren't buying products...the entrepeneurs of this country realize that. Even Warren Buffet, the oracle of Omaha, backs Obama.

The cries of socialism / communism are just people drumming up drama. This is a reversal of the last eight years of damage.

Curious, who do you think would more closely follow the constitution when making decisions, Obama or McCain? And why?

neither... though i hope the dems don't just change the constituiton so they can "read it correctly"

ha-ha... did you forget he is an American, born in Hawaii, and his mother was white?

You probably need to look up the differences between communism and socialism..different systems. What about modern Western Europe or Canada, they have quasi socialist economies, but are generally considered to have much higher quality of life than the US..

quality of life is measured "scientifically", to be free lets you choose you own quality of life you need.

The Republicans will have had 20 out of the last 28 years in the White House..enough is enough. The conservative agenda has proven to be a failure. It's time for a modern candidate to lead into the future.

dems/liberals..aren't modern anymore. they think gov can solve most anything, more isn't worse and tyranny can help people.

so... how is this modern?

the true conservative agenda hasn't been "out there" since Goldwater....and he failed...not the ideas.

I argue Obama. In brief, McCain has no formal education in politics or law, Obama has both. Obama lectured constitutional law for 12 years, teaching three courses per year and invited several times to become full-tenure at the law school. He is less tainted by the agendas and politics than McCain is, but still has Biden for the wealth of senate and government experience.

I argue against Obama since he himself has stated that he would pick judges who had empathy for the impoverished and minorities. Which leads me to believe that he favors judges who judge the person, and not the rule of law which is SUPPOSED to be blind to who you are and of what walk of life. That and the fact that he has stated that the warren court was not "radical" enough and did not break free of the "bonds" that held it back (which is the US constitution of course).

So i just figured if this is Obama's stance, i would rather take a chance with McCain's Constructionalist judge choices... at last he seems to believe in the rule of law.

Oh well, it will be fun to not have to defend anyone for at least 4 years... plus Rush Limbaugh is way more entertaining during Democrat presidencies... hope they dont reenact the fairness doctrine.

Yes, it's contrary to our collective deeply ingrained work ethic and concept of "meritocracy."

You know what really goes against meritocracy? Telling our children that if they work hard to become the best and brightest that they should have an equal shot to great things, but then have an institution in place that places major restrictions on members of certain groups so that "meritocracy" is only a reality for a select few. Hell, even with affirmative action in place, white people (hey, that's me! :ohyeah: ) are more likely to get top jobs or into colleges.

It is possible to interpret the law empathetically and still adhere to the constitution. Obama is an expert on constitutional law. [Joe Biden] I repeat, Obama is an expert on the constitution. [/Joe Biden] I am so excited about this fact, after having a president who thinks the constitution makes an adequate substitute for toilet paper.

Disagree. Times have changed.

A polished black guy with a wedding band and a set of golf clubs is more likely to ascend in a prestigious law firm armed with a J.D. from Virginia or some Ivy League School

BEFORE

a polished white guy with a comparably ranked law degree, say Michigan or Stanford, but NO wedding band and NO set of golf clubs ever will.

I'm just tossing that out as an example. What I'm saying is that "meritocracy" works here and in Canada more so than it does in a lot of places. For those who want to assimilate, and acquire a requisite amount of polish, the opportunities are there.

Kudos to Obama for a Harvard education. And kudos to our Hispanic next door neighbors growing up in LA whose daughter got a 3.9 in biochemistry and was admitted to NINE medical schools, making affirmative action superfluous in her case.

Just because someone is a constitutional scholar does not mean they practice what they say. Sure it may be called hipocracy but applying the law DIFFERENTLY to different people is not the rule of law... it is the rule of judges. It is no different than a policeman who abuses his power. People tend to look down on lawyers because they are good at finding loopholes... who is to say a constitutional scholar cannot find "loopholes" too? And Obama's saying that the warren court did not break from its constraints clearly shows that he must not believe too much in the constitution... possibly even less than the hackjob we have in office now.

On the plus side, the GOP tends to be very good fiscally and on issues such as these when they are minorities in the house/senate so as long as the democrats do not get super majorities we oughta be fine.

The middle class will be hit with the tax increase in the form of rising prices. While wealth may not trickle down always, taxes always do.

Plus tax shelters start to flourish and financial firms get more business because it becomes profitable to avoid taxes... and remember tax AVOIDANCE is legal, just not tax evasion. Several of my friends who work for accounting firms have said inquiries for "what does this mean for us" have been coming in quite non-stop recently.

As i have argued previously, tax increases are NOT socialism. However entitlement programs ARE socialism. Obama has just managed to successfully disguise these entitlement programs as "tax cuts." Of course if people really thought about it, its pretty hard to cut $0 for 40% of the population.

Additionally if Obama does allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, then the top 2 brackets would default back to 1 bracket at 39%, which means that anyone making over $150,000 will be paying more in taxes, not $200,000.

Now if Obama decides not to create the entitlement programs for the lower classes, and instead is very conservative fiscally and repays our debts, then i will be content with him in office, so long as he does not decide to wage war on the rule of law or the constitution.

How many times did we read in this forum that Senator McCain was doing "anything he could" to get elected... yet I laughed my ASS off to hear Obama immediately start to backpedal furiously on all of his lofty promises... IN HIS ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!

O.B. Did you catch his mention of needing

a second term to accomplish his goals?

It's time to move on people.....

We could talk about cars, money, sex, youtube, something.....

Well perhaps you're right.

I'd take a bullet for my 1959 Buick LeSabre,

& I'd do a million man march to put an end

to the safety-nazis that took away our

right to DECIDE like responsibl;e adults if

we do or DON'T want crap like 24 airbags,

B-pillars, 130lbs. of electronics that do

nothing for ME and many other entusiasts

otehr than lessen MPGs and performance...

Cars are my life... I'm obsessed. Right now

I'm on month 18 or so of dreaming of my

next BIG automotive goal, to own a car

that was manufactured prior to the start

of WW2, and idealy still powered by the

same exact motor it left the factory with.

I obsess over this goal, I will put off owning

a new computer, buying my first MP3 player

or owning a stupid plasma TV or any trendy

consumerist MADE IN CHINA garbage from

this era... just to get half a percentage

closer to owning a '36 Dodge Brothers sedan

or '34 Pontiac or whatever...

BUT, even my passion for cars, be it hardtop

1950s boulevard yachts or 1930s Art Deco

works of art, PALES to my love of this great

country and the freedoms and economic

opportunity it bestows.

And if it meant securing a safe, meaningful

future for my kids...

(BTW: Amelia is due to arrive within 5 days)

I'll push my B-59 off a clif or sell it for a

arsenal of firearms if our government ever

gets to the point of no return.

I hate extemist religious types who call

themselves Republicans and preach fire &

death upon anyone who does not fit their

mold/interpretation of the bible.

Likewise I hate many liberals and despise

destructive, loathing agenda of idiocy.

I think Al Gore was the BIGGEST & most

dangerous threat to this country in

decades, and he's a liar, Anti-American

dirtbag & there's even a chance if the

truth came out that he might have

conspired with or aided enemies of our

state... Seems he spent a LOT of his

time overseas preaching free trade

when in office, and yet I'd like to see a

carbon footprint of 1990s China &

todays China... that's not mentioned

by him durring his Nature-Nazi speeches.

It's funny how many PRO-CHOICE nuts

are also the exact same people who

constantly preach Animal rights!

Hitler was a vegetarian. Really.

The whole world seems dumb to me as

a whole but yet I meet people every

day face to face who I am on the EXACT

same page with... here in Mass. even.

Go figure. We're in the woodwork, and

when all you fu&$ing retards have

erroded every last personal liberty & are

screaming for help, the tide will turn, my

fear is that it might be too late.

And for the record, while Bush was the

lesser of two Evils vs. Gore, his Patriot

Act is one of the most UNAmerican and

disgusting "accomplishments" of any

president in the 232 year history of the

USA... it's pretty much equivelant to

the opposite end of the spectrum from

the Emancipation Proclamation, 1st/2nd

Amendments & Bill of Rights.

Are they still selling real estate on the

Moon or Mars? : :scratchchin:

You people do realize it will take more than 4 years to fix this mess of a country right? It doesn't happen overnight. :stupid:

It's going to take time, no doubt. McCain would have only made things much, much worse than they are now. Outdated conservative thought is what got this country in the mess it's in now.

Of course, no one but a complete retard

beleives the economy will recover fully

in less than a decade but his words were

VERY carefully chosen to reflect the

underlying truth:

TALK IS CHEAP, now he's gotta live up to

many of those lofty goals he set while he

was campaigning.

Anyone including the "Chilly Guy" of Boston

fame who is a drunk, beligerant, homeless

paranoid-skitzophrenic, can say:

"YES WE CAN"

Can WHAT?

Time will tell. It's becoming VERY clear just

how much the Clinton's screwed up, along

side with Bush, but then again both did good

things too, the world is never black & white.

I'm sorry but that was extremely disrespectful and you should be ashamed of yourself for saying such a thing. :nono:

And there is no such thing as a true "meritocracy." No society is based solely on achievement.

Well Obama's "outdated" liberal thought got us into the terrible economic conditions of the 70s and 80s, which was finally fixed by "conservative" thought. Prior to this, "conservative" thought was fixed by "liberal" thought in the 40s and 50s.

It's all cyclical. Neither theory is ever outdated, it just falls in and out of vogue.

I'd argue conservative is fundamentally backward looking and closed-minded, while liberal is open, modern, forward looking and worldly.

I hate to say it but I've heard many people

talk of assasination. Sad but true, though I

think this is mostly prompted by BHO's race

don't forget all the Democratic media

puppets have been molding him into a JFK

clone so it's not wonder the analogy comes

up now that he's due to be sworn in.

I don't like Obama, I think his best quality

is giving fantastic speeches of blissfully

positive optimism, and while I'm in no

position to judge him as a president yet since

I do not have a time machine I can tell you

that prior to JFK's fantastic speeches there

was another guy who talked of nothing but

positive change, was a huge proponent of

gun control/seisure and talked a big game

as far as bringing a country out of a massive

depression and into economic prosperity.

He was amazingly popular before the dark

truth came out about his REAL agenda & then

it was too late, having given up their right to

own firearms, the entire population was held

hostage by an evil dictator...

of course I'm speaking of Hitler.

If Obama was assasinated that would really

suck big time, not just for loss of human life

on his part but we'd see massive riots god

knows how many decades of progress on the

front of racial unity would be thrown out the

window, and worst of all, this magalomaniac

image of a God-like P666litician would be

forever hailed as a hero and a martyr.

JFK kind of sucked as a President, his ratings

were damn poor just prior to his assasination

in the fall of 1963.

"Conservative" thought has yet to really fix anything. From a policy point of view, Reagan was probably as bad as if not worse than Bush II.
