I've long been a subscriber to the thought that one should stay silent and be thought a fool rather than opening your mouth and confirming it. GM should take heed.

Of other notes in the article is consideration of a GXP version of the G6, Torrent, and Vibe. G6: GTP is here, but a GXP with 270hp plus and a 6 speed auto would FINALLY put GM on the performance map in this segment. Vibe: New design coming in 07. GM does not like to launch new products with top of the line powertrains right away. Also, the Vibe will once again be made with Toyota Parts..so I think a GXP version will only be available if Toyota decides it. Torrent: Why? The Redline Vue is on the same platform, and from what I can tell it sells with moderate success. A Torrent GXP will only split the sales from the Vue...plus what if GM decids to offer an Equinox SS at the same time? I can't see that big of a market for $28,000+ AWD small SUV's with 15 sec quarter mile performance.

It wouldn't be smart if GM decided to confirm that it had been greenlighted because they'd lose a lot of sales now from people who would wait for the GXP. I'm sure a large number of Solstice buyers can easily afford to spend more than $20-25k on them, so it wouldn't surprise me if they waited and spent $30k on a GXP if they knew it was coming.

perhaps after coming off the assembly line they could be shipped to a GM factory and drop a turbocharged ecotec in there?

If the do go forward with a Torrent GXP or 'Nox SS, it probably wont have the same engine as the Red Line. I doubt GM can get enough engines from Honda to build each Theta with the Honda motor. I'd bet on the 3900, or the 5300, since GM seems to like putting it into things.

Last I heard for the Nox SS/Torrent GXP was the 3.9

If so, I'm expecting V8-like fuel consumption. The current Malibu with the 3.9 gets fewer miles to the gallon than a ~3900 lb. Equinox AWD.

you mean GM can't put it's own engine and transmission in a Toyota?

It's more of a manufacturing issue than technical. It's not that they can't, but it's cheaper to keep everything the same.

That's my personal motto.
