Saw production Camaro in person this weekend

Went up do Detroit this past weekend and GM had one at their booth. Looked good overall, but WOw, this thing is HUGE! Serisouly, it's a big car on the outside. Interior looked decent, could've been trimmed off a bit better but overall looked good.

Looks nice from the front. I saw a black Challenger yesterday and you can really tell it's a Charger in drag. Something about its size and proportions turns me off. I think I'll like the Camaro better.

All joking aside, any of you guys remember, back in 2004 & 2005

when I used to post tons & tons of mild-to-SUPER-retro sketches

of Camaros and the occassional FirePhoenix/TA & a good majority

of the members of this forum (and 80% of the world) were busy

telling me to STFU... there were THREE categories of people.

1. The beleivers, the true Camaro fans... you KNoW who you are,

maybe we had our differances but in your heart of hearts you

wanted to belive, you, as I, wrote to GM, discussed the 'concept'

of an F-body resurection & 21st century muscle car niche market.

2. "Retro sux & a retro Camaro will never-ever-ever in a kabillion

trillionty years happen! What's more there WILL never again be

a Camaro, or muscle car, or even a two door car market..."

3. I hope the Camaro comes back but NOT retro,

retro sucks! GM will NOT do retro! It's not 1967,

get it through your fat, thick head... stop living in

the past, move on... there's always the G6 coupe.

To all the people who fall in No.2 or No.3:

PLease, PLEASE make sure to post about how pathetic & lame

my obsession with (pillarless) hardtops is & use very liberaly

pretty close, but the front and rear proportions help the camaro out.

It's the differnce between the corporate bean counters (accountants)/MBA typs and passionate car guys ruinning the show.

The corporate guys will never get it. The irony is that the bottom line is affected in the postiive when you create cars that people want and desire.

And isn't that what the accountants want?

Take the new CTS Coupe for example. I'm wanting one, lusting even. I fantacize about being the first to get one on the block and throwing on some huge wheels and tires and go blvding. That's what GM has to continue to do. I don't need a CTS Coupe. I want one.

What I like about this new Camaro, besides its hot looks, is that it's not a literal interpretation of past designs. It's modern with a polite nod to the past. Unlike the Challenger which is way too retro, almost a direct copy of the original.

Right show, wrong year, it was the 2006 NAIAS at Detroit in Jan. 2006. And a lot of people keep complaining that it took "too long" to bring out the production Camaro, I think just over three years from concept to production is pretty reasonable!
