I think it's ridiculous the amount of attention stories like this get. People are so obsessed with other people being gay...makes me wonder if all those people are really just in the closet...

Sheryl Swoopes (the WNBA player) came out as well... they spent 5 minutes blabbing about it on last night's Sports Center

Frontiers isn't exactly a widely circulated newspaper. This may not be AP headline worthy but its certainly worth a few minutes on Entertainment Tonight. It's too bad it took him so long to come out because he could have spent the last 40 years with gorgeous young men throwing themselves at him. :P

1.  He looks ok for being 68.
2.  I feel bad that he was ashamed as a teenager.
3.  I hope that coming out helps him and others.

Yeah, I believe he made a statement like the two things he was ashamed of were his homosexuality and that he (being Japanese) spent time in an internment camp during WWII.

He's not doing it to get attention, so I'm happy for him that he's able to do this. He's not like all these has-been pesudocelebs that go ahead and announce, "I'M GAY! And I'm writing a book..." Newsflash: you're gay, and no one cares.

Hah yea no kidding...he could've had his share of trekkies. Ah well the article says he's had a partner for 18 years so I guess he's doing pretty well.

I thought the same thing but I did notice the photo in the story was about 10 years old. Edited by CD/BP

It would have been nice if he was able to come out 30 years ago when I was struggling with my identity. The kids today are much more fortunate. They have role models and resources to turn to. Look at all the closet cases - Rock Hudson, Montgomery Clift, Tab Hunter and many others who came out much later, or posthumously. Although it is a shame that it is newsworthy at all, there were those of us 30 years ago who hungered for this type of information - just for proof that there were others out there like us. Beam me up, Scotty.

I guess it was just hard enough being an Asian on television 30 years ago. At least, he served as a role model for all the Asian-Americans that aspired to be in show business.
