As long as you don't need the money right away, the potential for growth is large and the dividend is not to shabby either.

That which I have is linked to the ESOP of the 1980's. I recently moved to acquire more thinking "what-the-hell". It is a calculated risk on my part and as you've stated the dividend is somewhat the consolation prize. I have faith that they've finally 'got it'. In that I am hopeful. And life itself remains a calculated risk.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does one go about purchasing stock? Is there a "better way" to do it? Also, is there a specified amount you are expected to buy at the time of purchase (100 shares vs. 1 share?)???

I like http://www.sharebuilder.com Weekly investment fees are low and you can also do a realtime trade for 9.95 if there is something hot going down or up! :smilewide:

Edit: You can buy as little as one share here. Then you are eligible to come to the Shareholders meeting in Wilmington, Delaware and watch Buickman in person, and maybe even see me. :AH-HA_wink:

Go to www.insidercow.com and type in GM to see who has been buying what. Very interesting. Seems like Mr. Wagoner is putting his money where his mouth is.

Speaking of which, try typing in one of the oil companies and see what their execs are up to. That is even more interesting!

Based on the replies from the readers on these types of articles, I see a lot of disgust for the old General out there - and a lot of "yeah, they build junk, I wouldn't buy a GM car for love or money, etc, etc,..." Or "stock is junk like the cars", blah blah blah- and that's the huge 300 lbs. gorilla in GM's future plans. They have to figure out a way to get people to realize that they're building good cars. I realize there's a lot d-bags out there just posting something negative for the sake of posting something negative, but still, I think we all know their reputation is pretty bad generally speaking.

Which makes me wonder...could the Volt really be GM's "iPod"?? If done correctly and launched with no hiccups, I think the answer to that is yes. Maybe a really good small car (like the NG Cobalt) could be their slow ands steady way of getting back to having some solid credibility? But that's going to be slow and tedious, much like how it's been since 2005.

I wonder - who supports GM products beyond the enthusiasts?

GMTruckguy, this is one of the rare times I will strongly agree with PCS.... take it as you will.

Agreed also..I've used Sharebuilder for about 8 years now, I have a nice portfolio of about 25 stocks and indicies with #of shares ranging from less than 1 to over a 100..

The Volt will change all of that!
