How cute.... that one is a two-door sedan like my "poor man's Buick" two door post.

Posted
im running of to play some lotto tickets tonight.. i need me one of them!

Screw that.

If I won the lottery I sure as $h! would never run out and buy

a 20XX Chevy two door sedan when with lottery winnings I'd

be able to afford the REAL DEAL!

Why buy the cheap, flat, 4-color print poster when you can

have the original oil painting with Van Goghs' 3D signature?

Hardtop 69 for me please&thanks!

Ever since they turned the Camaro into a 2dr sedan with a

glued in rear window I do not care for it much at all.

These pictures look like a Pilot Production run to finalize the Robotic Programming to make sure everything runs smoothly when then move it to the final, actual production line. This does not look like a full production line to me. :scratchchin:

Sixty8, do you have to pollute every single Camaro thread with your whining? It gets really, really old.

What we have to remember is, Sixty8 is NOT a fan of Camaros. He is simply a fan of "hard-tops" and anything without a B-pillar. Once we all come to that realization then the world (at least the new Camaro threads) will be a better place.

Sorry but seriously LQQK at that thing... sitting there in steel looking purdy

and then you notice that ugly, thick (but flimsy rolled steel) post that is

for the most part useless, except to slap hot black glued onto and glue in

a cheap, tacky 1/4 window. :puke:

It's a bastardization, a real let down.

If you promisse to bring back a legendary icon from the 1960s & show a

world class concept that shows you GET IT but then the production car is

a watered down, de-evolved & cheapened immitation... well... *sigh*

Sure it would look better and be cooler to not have the B-pillar. But, as a Camaro fan, I don't care that the new one will have a B-pillar. In fact, I don't like driving with the windows down, so it doesn't really matter to me.

Posted

Yes, it would probably look better without the b-pillar, but for most (if not all) of the rest of us, it doesn't ruin the car. It still has a sexy body, powerful engine, hopefully good driving dynamics, etc.

How soon is "early?"

I have heard whispers concerning this September.

A word of caution, however: do not put all of your eggs in one basket.

isn't it set to be shown at the Indy 500 or something like that? coming up really soon i think....

an early release would be great. though i hope a real early release materializes for the next cobalt, like before this year is over.

I wouldn't compare a new car with a 40 yr old one...the new one will no doubt be a much better performer all around, and much nicer car to drive.

Since you will never buy a new car, why do you even bother to post in these threads?

Personally, I do not mind seeing one of Sixty-8s quips about modern cars. What does bother me, however, is when he makes multiple posts dealing with that same quip. Sorry Sixty-8, I just had to be honest here.

Back on topic, however, let's discuss anything and everything about the new Camaro. :AH-HA_wink:

Posted

I know what Sixty8 is talking about..

There is nothing like the look and feeling of driving a first gen with all of the window down and no B-pillar.

At the same time, it's not enough of an issue with me to de-rail my purchasing plans. :)

Fat chance. GM never speeds up anything but their big trucks, so the Camaro won't get sped up either. 2009 before we start seeing any.

Sorry guys....

It's just soooooooo stupid. It pisses me off to no end knowing

an even less "safe" and less structurally soud convertible will

be released shortly that will have 100% of the components in

the rear 1/4 that a hardtop requires. he window regulators &

beefed up B-post/rear 1/4 are all going to exist and are there

waiting to e utilized.

:fryingpan::banghead::duh:

If GM made it an option, even at the cost of a few hundred or

a thousand dollars, Id never bitch again because we'd all have

our cake and get to eat it too.

And this WAS absolutely going to be a NEW car I was goign to

buy... I've been saying since 1998/9 that a 5th gen. retro

Camaro is my DREAM car. A

Some of you guys who have been on this forum as long as I

have must remember my constant insistance that I beleived in

my hert of hearts a 5th gen. Camaro is just around the corer &

that it WILL be 1st gen. retro. I was told by many, on and off the

internet that I was naive/stupid/foolishly optimistic.

I made it my crusaide to write GM and bombard them with info.

proving that a 5th gen. Camaro was just what the doc. ordered

to wake up GM/Chevy. I just never realized they'd ONCE again

water it down and sell out to Nader/Toyota driving masses. <_<

Once again, almost the entire car from the firewall back would be different between a hardtop and a convertible, so that argument really isn't valid. Would a hardtop be cool? Sure. Do 99.9% of car buyers care? Nope.

ATTN: MODS! Please remove the 11,235 POSTS on Sixty-Eight's account. He finds them to be tacky and unbecoming to the site.

Or, change the word 'Posts' to 'b-pillars'. (if you are in the mood to be funny) :CG_all:

Sixty-eight, seriously, buy a convertible if the b-pillar pisses you off so much, or skip the Camaro threads altogether! Every reader here GETS IT that you hate B-pillars. We do NOT need to read it again. We all know your feelings on the matter. And for the record - I love your '59 Buick...hoping for a convertible version of that car in my collection some day!

We will be seeing the production car ahead of schedule. :AH-HA_wink:

Indeed. :smilewide:

I do believe GM is ready to get the second part of the Pony Car wars ignited ahead of schedule. I believe that they too feel as if development time has dragged on longer than expected. Between the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang, I believe I will put my money on the Camaro being the better car out of all three. :AH-HA_wink:

This really throws a wrench into my near-future car buying/leasing plans...

I was having a hard enough time deciding between a Cobalt coupe or Jetta TDI (I know, neither is in the same "league" but I've been considering both for their seperate merits), and now with this news it totally screws up my train of thought!

Edit: that "new Honda hybrid" thread is screwing with me too!!!

How cute that these images were leaked. Let me just tell you that General Motors will not be happy about this.

However... I did see a Camaro Convertable in production last night at work in Oshawa.

Identical to the Concept.

GM should not be too surprised, however. I guarantee that this situation has been in the back of their mind ever since the F5 project came onboard.

Well I hear plenty of redundant bitching on this forum about mouse-fur interiors,

lack of stupid electro-gadgetry & other crap that to me seems useless.

I don't need stow-n-go, MP3-synch, leather floor-mats/kick panels/parcel shelf

& double visors with redundant, lighted vanity mirror with twilight sentinel.

We've all got our crosses to bear, Ill try to cut down on my B-pillar bitching but I

for one would love to see people cut down on the

"that interior makes my pussy hurt" threads.

If I don't make very good progress in the next couple years on my '68 project, it'll be sold and the $$ will be put down on a new one.

Un-real. If the car didn’t have a "B" pillar you'd buy one with your lottery winnings. But since it does, you'll trash GM for making the best looking car it is ready to produce in recent memory....with an ungainly "B" pillar. That feature alone does not make it look watered down, nor resemble anything Toyota'ish. If you would like to see watered down check out the interior photos of the concept Challenger VS the production car.

Oh! Just an observation, the Mustang and Dodge Challenger both have B pillars. Dodge hid theirs on the exterior pretty well, however it looks cheap once inside the car.

This just goes to show that (no matter how great it looks outside, inside, coupled with the fact that this car will handle very well…..PLUS ride and drive comfortably…..AND burn rubber all the way from daycare to work…..) you can’t please everyone. Ill take mine in bumblebee yellow.

Posted

Yeah... if I was to overlook the B-pillar in the 5th gen. Camaro it would be at least

be in an enjoyable and unique interior but the Challenger's is quite generic.

Oh yeah, because most cars look like the Challenger. It doesn't stand out at all.

Dude, read my post. INTERIOR.

The Challenger has a nice exterior but even that falls

short of the Camaro's aggressively sculpted lines.

Come on 68, :P , enjoy the new Camaro as it is, you can do it.

The B-Piller in the 5th gen doesn't look bad to me, but since I didn't grow used to actually seeing the new Camaro without it, seeing a b-piller in this car doesn't hurt the appearance.

Now, a b-piller in a 1st gen would be a completely different story. Those cars have around 40 years of being out and we are all used to seeing them as they are.

Posted
Even though it has a B-Pillar, it does have frameless door glass.

True. On the one hand that's one way of saying the cloud has a silver lining...

but then again frameless door glass & glued in rear window

VS.

a true pillarless hardtop.... it's just NOT the same.

That's like saying Joan Rivers may not apeal to a 25 year old male but she DOES have a pu$$y.

Okay, so we were able to pull one positive comment out of him.

Seriously. Its a sweet car with nice lines & a progressive overall shape. The fact that the interior has a nicley retro touch is pretty cool too. Couple that with a car that rides, drives, handles and hauls A$$ makes it pretty darn good car (Id say).

Enjoy it for what it is. You dont have to buy one. And if you do, Ill throw in a SawZall.

Hi.

True hardtops have approximately 15 percent higher risk of a non-ejection fatality in a rollover crash than pillared cars of the same size and exposure pattern.

Because of this fact, your friends at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Department of Transportation have implemented standards

that demand (in short) that all new vehicles subject to the standard that the roof structure withstand the force of 2.5 times their unloaded vehicle weight,

without significant headroom intrusion....convertibles are exempt from the rule because if you roll one - you are paralyzed or dead-

B-pillars aren't a f*cking option on a vehicle with an integral roof - GM didn't decide to put them in or leave them out.

There are also new side impact requirements that are unbelievable! Don't get me started. Structure isn't an afterthought or a maybe....

It's absolutely critical to good design! I thought we went through this before -remember? :deadhorse:

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the Mercedes CLK or CL coupes? :AH-HA_wink:

http://www.mbusa.com/models/body-style-ove...w.do?body=coupe

Those are only available as hardtops, though.. no 'b-pillar option'. I rarely ever see them with all the windows down, though...with A/C, that's a rarity.
