My contract in Colorado ended March 31, and I've been down here in Phoenix house sitting from my sister since then.... I've been working the phone and using Monster and Dice since a week ago Monday, had 4 in-person interviews and now have 3 job offers w/ a 4th likely to come tommorow--(1 12 month contract, 1 contract-to-hire, 2 perm positions), another interview tommorow..the job market is much better than I thought it would be here, given the economy as a whole (the software biz seems not too affected by the overall economy currently).

Hmmm.... cool.

There's an E225 ragtop down in AZ that will grace my driveway should I ever win the lottery

and also, my buddy Duffy lives down there too. It's always fun to visit him, wanted to last

year but $/time are not making it happen any time soon.

I thought of you today when I took a walk around the neighborhood...a couple streets over there is a sharp white '62 Caddy 4dr ht, and a block away a goregous '69 Camaro SS ragtop (white w/ black stripes). I will have to take a pic..

Please do. That's a delicious pair.

The dry heat of Arizona is so much less bothersome than the heat & humidity here in the summer.

There are some incredible cars here...at dinner last night (about 1 mile away) I saw a red F430 spyder and a yellow '72 Montego GT in traffic, saw a silver SL 65 AMG in traffic today... was out in Scottsdale in Wed and saw oodles of high end cars.. have seen 3 Merc G-wagens this week, several different AMGs, lots of blinged 7-series, several M5s and M3s, and several '60s Mustangs and Camaros in regular traffic as well.

The thing you have to watch out for with old cars here is the soft trim, rubber seals, etc..the heat and sun kills the interiors on unprotected cars.

Wow, great!

I've been at it for a month, but all in the "cyber" application sense, so all a lot of waiting and "in a week or so" responses. Lets of great prospects...but oog, what a lapse from start to any response with a lot.

Nothing beats direct calls, from past experience, and that may also start very soon.

Update: as of Friday I had 4 offers. If I had kept up the search another week, I probably could have had a 1/2 dozen more interviews..the market for my thing is very good in the Phoenix area right now. Still strong in Denver, nothing like the awful downturn of 2001-2002 where no one was hiring.

1 a 12 mo/ contract (W2) with a major bank. The downsides were the 28 mile commute from central Phoenix to Chandler. Ugly during rush hour. Context: big IT shop, big production enterprise high-transaction, highly visible production systems to work on.

1 was a 4 mo/ contract (W2) to hire with a company that runs online universities. More laid back, working on internal course scheduling systems, student processing systems. commute not to bad (to Tempe).

1 was a perm job with a small, public company that builds infrastructure for streaming video and other content (think CNN videos, etc). Seemed like a fun place...the commute wasn't too bad, to Tempe. The $$$ were good for a perm, stock options, benefits competitive (health, dental paid in full by company, but only 2 weeks vacation (which isn't competitive for senior-level software engineer positions). Their offices were converted warehouses..I wonder how effective the AC would be in 115 deg heat in the summers. Did some research on their stock, they recently lost a major IP lawsuit with a competitor, stock tanked..that kind of bothers me.

1 was a perm job with a small, private company building software for online fraud detection. They have some big name clients, very nice work environment (all laptops w/ big flat screens, comfy chairs, catered lunch every day, company softball team). They do have a R&D group besides product development, which is attractive to me. The $$$ were what I was looking for, stock options, benefits competitive (health, dental paid in full by company, pet insurance available, and 3 weeks vacation). They are in a nice office park in N. Scottsdale, right down the street from where the Barrett-Jackson auctions are held every year. Shortest commute, and against the usual morning flow. I ended up accepting this offer, and am starting next Monday.

I'm back in Denver this week to put some stuff from my condo in storage (probably going to rent it out to a friend) and take a bunch of stuff back to Phoenix this weekend.

Sounds great!

Want to do some career shopping for me, hah! I like the sound of Phoenix...FAR away, but that's a good thing, warm, etc. And great industry, generally.

Now, if I can just finally get rolling on my own "multiple offers" to evaluate :)
