Z stated in his article that there is a problem with the design of the Sky's bodywork that holds a targa version back. His article also states that they are "working on it".

Actually, I hope they let the Solstice alone have this feature.

What would be interesting is if they do a fixed roof version of the Sky with a different design.

about a sky coupe... it'd be interesting to see, but it would have to be killer, cause the sky looks so good now.

I'm wondering how the Sky would look with a roof like the Corvette....hoop b-pillar and big glass hatchback.

I really hope that the Solstice Targa stays Pontiac-exclusive, but if the Opel crew decides they want a new GT variant, I hope it is a true coupe that follows the original GT, leaving the Targa versatility to Pontiac and Pontiac alone.

On a totally unrelated note, I guess the GT is proof Opel can make something other than sewing machines. :smilewide:

Wow, beautifully done. I really do like this. I bet it would look HOT in black. Too bad I am too tall to fit in one. :(

How about a G8 coupe styled in similar fashion?

Or even a G6 replacement on Alpha?

Big enough?

Just a thought.

Wait until you see it in person. Your legs WILL turn to jello.

For all those drooling over the rear 3/4 pic, today while I was snapping my own rear 3/4 shot, Bruce Koshbab (chief engineer for the Solstice) told me he referred to the rear 3/4 shot of the car as "the money shot". It's not hard to see why.

Yeah, that would work, although I don't think the Alpha for Pontiac will happen. It would be nice if it did. It sure is a beautiful car, though. I really like the new wheels. If I lived in a warmer climate, the base model would be a great car for my daughter.

A G8 Coupe styled like this would be really cool. Defintely keep GM in the running as a style leader.

Uhhh I want one... Well actually I would rather have a G8 GT or GXP. But uhh if I was young and had the money. Sweet looking item, the Solstice hardtop or not is way better looking than the edgey Sky.

Gorgeous! A+

While I would (of course) much more prefer a [pillarless] HARDTOP over

a more euro-esque targa I will admit that this car has some killer looks

for a sports car with a B-pillar. The targa bodystyle is a good way to get

sales from the "want more than a sunroof but not a ragtop & it has to be

affordable..." crowd, which is like 80% of the potential customer base.

This is Pontiac. The purest, cleanest, sexiest, most romantic, athletic and perfect expression of Pontiac styling in decades. Beautiful. For a weekend trip, slip off the hardtop and leave it in the garage, attach the soft top. Drop off your suitcase at the hotel, stow the soft top in the load area, and you're ready to cruise. Very complete package. I. want. one. I think I might stay home from work today and just stare at these pictures.:drool::bowdown:

A weird detail to miss considering how well they did otherwise.

They could at least paint that ugly thing the same color as the rest of the car. Guess that would be a good reason to buy one in black.

It looks like they forgot to move it to a more coupe-appropriate area. Hopefully this can be addressed by the time they start production.

Ugh.....can you picture how ugly that is going to look with the mast attached......?

Is it really that expensive to incorporate an antenna like the XLR's which lies beneath the sheetmetal? That would be best for this car.

Excellent way to extend the Solstice line...any hope of a Nomad-esque variant or other Kappa products?

I really wish they would, but I'm guessing it won't happen before the next generation - if ever.

It can't be.

Most new cars these days have either concealed antennas or small stuck-on antennas on the roof (like on my CTS.)

So is this going to be the same price as the 'vert? Cheaper since it doesn't have a convertible top?

And while we're talking about price of the Solstice, can someone explain how the damn thing went from sub-$20k at intro to nearly $23k? And how at almost $23,000, it STILL doesn't have standard AC?

My Fusion has the antenna embedded in the glass (they started the roof-mounted ones on '07s) and the reception sucks.

my nova has the same 36 year old wire in the windshield, and it works fantastic! :ohyeah:

mmm, I'd have to slightly disagree there. Of the current lineup? Yes. But you said "in decades". ;)

LS1 WS6 T/A is more athletic, and IMO a more "pure" expression of what Pontiac styling is all about (marriage of form and function, and raucous attitude that intimidates and _demands_ attention).

Not to mention us over-6-foot-ers fit better, have more room to carry stuff (even for a weekend trip).

:D

But that aside, I'm with you in drooling over the Soltice Coupe. God that thing rocks. If I had the cash on hand, I'd line up to buy one. Pure, raw driving experience - have to be sans ABS or TCS or Stabilitrak or OnStar. Z0K equipped. Probably in that show car's color, or maybe SOM. A few simple tweaks, and get that bad boy between the cones. :metal:

Regarding the Sky.... god I sure as hell hope not. The sky is ugly, doesn't belong at a saturn dealer (a saturn sports car? I mean, really....!), and besides, it's called the "Sky" because it's a roadster. Can't close it up. They'd have to change the name to the Roof or something. lol

I don't get it, now since it has a fixed glass, can't they do it there and have the rear window mesh type? Yes, I give it that it takes a bit of rearview away, but it looks better than this.

That's kinda scary though. I hope they don't change anything but that before it goes on sale.

True, but I expect that there is little time to change anything but small details such as this.

Perhaps even a change this small might have to wait until a second year of production. I hope not, as this thing is like a zit on a beautiful face.
