C&G NYIAS 08 Coverage

Recommended Posts

I am pleased to announced that I have been invited by none other than GM's PR firm to attend the press days for the 2008 New York International Auto Show. This year promises to be a fantastic show, and C&G will be there to witness it all. What can you expect to see? I don't want to reveal my full hand just yet, but here is some of it:

  • World debuts of production and/or concept cars from Pontiac and Saab
  • A fashion show highlighting the unveiling of the new Saab "BioPower" clothing line
  • A luncheon with Buick designers, featuring a live sketch of its latest concept
  • Interviews with various GM designers, engineers, and executives, including none other than Bob Lutz
  • Interview with the entire Volt production team
I've got tons of batteries, a 1GB SD card, a tripod, a digital camera, and a laptop to bring with me. I'm probably going to buy a digital voice recorder tonight also. I promise to give you all the most comprehensive coverage I possibly can. Be sure to keep tabs on the front page and the 2008 NYIAS forum for updates.

Might want to pick up a larger SD card, 2-4 GB to make sure you get lots of good high res shots.

If you feel like you don't want to go and need someone else from LI to cover... let me know. My camera has a 1GB card too... although I think you'll get more Buick coverage than any other brand from me! LOL

Like Everyone, I STRONGLY SUGGEST AN 8GB SD Card. With prices on Buy.com from $34 to $159, it would be the best upgrade you can do for your camera and minimizing having to download the pictures to free up the 1gb card for more pictures.

I would also suggest you update the firmware on your digital camera. Due to limitations on earlier camera's that kept you at 1, 2 or 4gb. A updated firmward usually also lets you get the largest size SD Card and better results from your camera. Perfect example is on the EOS Camera, the focus and save time both got much better with a firmware update.

Have fun, Good Luck and Hope NY does not end up smelling you up. That is one interesting city. How so many people can live in a tight place and have the stench it has. :P

Awwww, how sad that I won't be there this year, no visits to the inlaws (AKA: Outlaws) on Long Island, no Garden City Hotel room bill to pay for, no traffic, and of course sadly, no unusual sights and smells of NY. :smilewide:

No joke, garden city is only a few miles from my town.... you should visit...

and bring your daughter along! :AH-HA_wink:

and whats this buick concept sketches you mentioned, Z28

OK, just finished the Buick luncheon, and I'm in the New York Public Library giving a quick update.

RE: the SD card issue, my camera is an older model that doesn't support the higher capacity cards. No matter, as I have my laptop in tow complete with SD card reader, I'm dumping the images to my hard drive as I write this and will have something up on the front page shortly. One of the first things on my agenda after media days are over will be to procure a Canon Powershot S5.

Next is the dinner with Buick and Pontiac execs, followed by the Saab party. I'm not sure when the next update will be, since I'm looking at about 3 hours of sleep tonight.

I did manage to sneak in 45 minutes of sleep between 3:15 and 4 this morning.

I got home for good around 9 tonight and have been winding down fast. I have quite a few pics that I need to sort through, and I had the privilege of doing four video interviews today. I should be getting the master video file within the next couple of days. I'll just have to splice each interview and edit out the stuff I dont want, like the guy who stuck his huge camera in the way while I was filming the 9-x last night. I can't wait to get all this up - I had an absolute blast, an I hope you guys enjoy what I come up with.

I just got the video files for the four interviews that I did, plus some footage of the Saab shindig. They'll be posted within a couple of days as soon as I can figure out how to merge/cut/splice MP4s.
