Just Browsing Flickr, I found this picture of Calgary in the early 1950s and it's in color, so I thought I'd share it... Incidentally, one of the billboards at the foot of the bridge, has an 88 and 98 on it... Could that be an OLDSMOBILE ad :scratchchin: ?

That is a very nice pic, vonVee, and I think you're right about the Olds billboard. My question is, what are those big piles of gray stuff in the background with white stuff on top?

I live in a city that sits 100 miles from the rocky mountains... Of course nowadays you can't see them from Scotsmans Hill like that with all of the tall buildings...

That picture was taken, based on the Olds Billboard, no earlier than 1949, and this picture was taken from almost the same vantage point last year (the bridge in this picture is the same one from the above picture, where, ironically, a Steven Segal movie was once filmed)

That's a cool picture. Even the newer one is out of date, as there are a lot more cranes downtown now. The horizon is going to change in about 2-3 years again with all the new buildings going up.

Ad far as I can tell, the only building I can recognize in the 1950 picture that is still up is the tall one in the back, the Palliser Hotel...
